Played Quake 4 for the 1st time on my new rig last nite & under sound setting it stated that my soundcard didn't have Open Al support. I had already updated my driver to the latest one available on the Creative site which is supposed to have Open Al support but i didn't go thru the uninstall, safe mode, driver cleaner method i usually go thru with my gpu driver, i just updated the driver.
Can some1 please tell me the best method to update this driver. I'm dl'in it again now & wanna get it right this time.

I just use the auto update for my audigy 2 zs and openAL works fine

You should also try downloading the latest OpenAL drivers from openal.org, that worked for GRAW on my Audigy2

You have set it to game mode in the Creative Audio Console ?

Last time I played Quake4 I recalled OpenAL not working because I had forgotten to shift it over to the other mode.

Also have you updated the game to the latest 1.3 patch.

Yep, thats it 8T8, have an application (x-fi mode changer) that automatically changes to game mode but had forgot to configure it for Quake. Cheers.

    Application is here: http://www.freewebs.com/spectra9/xfmc.html
