Behold, in all it's crappy pic glory:

    rigen9.jpg

I've everything I could want in a rig now, fullfills all my needs.

So, allow me to talk you guys through my setup. The main machine is the Engl Fireball, which is a 60watt all-tube amp head, pretty much the amp for Metal. I tested this baby out over a year ago now, and from that moment I though yes, this is the amp for me. Couldn't be happier with it, it just sounds phenominal.

Next we have the ISP Decimator (Little shiny pedal sitting on top of the Fireball) which is the premier noise reduction system on the market, that goes between the gutiar and the amp in the signal chain, eliminating any noise and interference that would otherwise be amplified.

The shiny thing on the floor is the Engl Z-4 footswitch, which allows me to change channels on the Fireball, aswell as switch between two master volumes. Handy for a solo boost.

Sitting next to that, is the Line6 Pod XT Live. I got this mainly for recording, and it does it's job amazingly, but I've also got it set up to run in the effects loop aswell. I was worried that the Pod would suck some tone from the Fireball, but with a bit of tweaking, it sounds great, and actually adds to the tone a little. I'm not using much effects at all, it's just adding a bit of reverb, but I've got it set up with a noisegate and a tiny bit of compression, then there's switchable chorus and delay when needed. The expression pedal is set for volume, which I tend to use a lot for those lovely volume swells. :)

All that sound is then spat out through the Engl Vintage 4x12 Cab. This is a very sturdy cab, it's loaded with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers, and it's slanted.

So, there is my rig in depth.

I'd add that it's an incredibly silent rig, as I've got the ISP Decimator running infront of the amp, then the noisegate on the Pod running in the effects loop. This completely eliminates all noise when I'm not playing something, there's not even the slightest hum from it, I could crank it right up and you wouldn't even know that it was turned on. Sweet. :D

And yes, I will have some time bringing all this to practice.

    Thoughts?

Black Gibson Les Paul Standard 1995 into a Boss GT-8
which is set up to take midi commands from the FCB-1010.
The Boss GT-8 signal chain I use for most songs is:
    Pitchbender -> Wah -> OD -> Compression -> EQ -> AMP (in Boss GT-8 Loop) -> (First GT-8 custom effect) -> Chorus -> Delay -> Reverb -> FootVolume

This can be changed around for different songs, but would be the general setup. This is all run into an ENGL Thunder-50 322 which has the ENGL Z-4 footswitch. The FCB-1010 can also be used to control any effect and any parameter of any effect. For example, I can set the expression pedals to change how much gain is used in the distortion, the rate at which the Tremolo effect runs at, how long the feedback for delay is. Anything I can think of that can be changed on the Boss-GT8 can be changed with the FCB-1010.

I could use a Noise Gate but I feel it sucks out too much tone.

Wow, that's a very interesting rig there Giblet.

Honestly, you should check out the ISP Decimator, it's incredibly transparent and doesn't affect the tone at all.

    Hehe nice :)

Oh yeah I can turn off the ENGL preamp and use the preamp of the Boss-gt8 with the power stage of the ENGL. Why I would do this is a mystery :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

Quite the Pratchett collection you have, nicely done. Oh, and the music-based stuff is quite adequate too, I suppose.

Just to say "The Humanizer" effect on the GT-8 is cool. Sounds like the Xotic Robotalk (the effect Omar uses on the weird guitar part of Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt by The Mars Volta) Sample: www.sleevesmahoney.com/outpu2t.mp3

I keep forgetting that I also have loads of effects like Sub-Delays and Stereo Choruses jammed into this thing and I forgot the Tuner ;)

There's the main components of my rig, Epi Sheraton and Fender Blues Deluxe, except I use a TU-2 in between and used to use a Boss Blues Driver. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I bought a Fulltone Fulldrive-2 offa Ned-Zepplin and that shall replace the BD-2.

A mighty rig for the rock and roll music.

It will be doubly mighty come November... which I am now naming Gretsch-month.

Actually, Karl. I was wondering why you are using a noise gate for the guitar straight into the amp? Seems a bit strange. Usually I would put it after a bunch of effects as some tend to generate a bit of noise.

Well, I tested it out before the amp and in the effects loop and I found that running it before the amp was most effective, so that's where it's been ever since.

Well you know feedback is a continuous loop from guitar to amp to speaker back to guitar etc... so it doesnt really matter where you put it to stop feedback.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,989 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Unless there is noise generated by the effects ;)

Hence my referral to 'feedback' not hum wink.gif

    While we're posting rigs...

    fullrigds9.jpg

I'm hoping to add a Holy Grail and a tremolo pedal in there at some stage but I'm in no rush at the moment.

Blah to all that - I'll post the first non-guitar rig in the next day or two :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

My bass rig is ****e so I'm too embarrassed. Apart from the bass itself and a RAT fuzz pedal there's nothing else of note.

As GStormcrow, it's a copy. Very nice little guitar which I picked up on the cheap and upgraded with a set of Seymour Duncans.

    Don't have a Jem though. It's a J Custom I've got. ;)

    Even better... I wana J custom :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭david

Well, its a brick, and has DC power, The main reason I got it over just a daisychain and PSU is the EHX power adapters, and it doesn't have any hum at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

I'll photo the kids whenever I dig out the camera. My bass amp ain't worth anything really, but I'll just throw guitars in together with the JCM. ;)

Out of curiosity how heavy can the fallen angel get without any disto pedal, i hear good things and am thinking about getting me the all tube combo, well after i pay off for my new kit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

It's designed for metal and downtuning so it is quite heavy indeed. I haven't needed an distortion pedal since I got it as it has more than enough power there for me (and I used to play with a RAT with the gain on full!). There's also a volume boost for the distortion that if you want to boost the distortion channel while you're using it for a solo or whatever then you can.
