major problems with outlook and gmail

tried to set-up new email with gmail but having major probs with outlook express it keeps asking me for my username and password and then tells me its wrong then i go to the google site to sort this out and it wont let me unless i have the verification code that came with my welcome email but i cant get into the account to get it help please b4 i kick it out the door

Make sure you haven't caps lock on or something simple like that when entering your password. You should be able to get your password using the other email address you provided when signing up.

tried all that no joy because i got welcome email by outlook i cant go to original site to get it cause it not there and outlook wont let me into my other email address

would i be better wiping the lot and starting from scratch any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated

Did you follow all of the steps on the google help site?

Changing the ports etc? You can also download all of the settings, might save some time.

That won't help, there is a discussion forum and a Help Center (where you send your issue to Google and maybe they can help).
