Sorry if you've already had threads discussing him, been gone a while but what's the general consensus?

I heard the 4th Branch a couple of months ago and I just had to order Revolutionary one and two... which Plugd keep forgetting to order for me so I dl'd one at least. 4th Branch is one of the most amazing hip hop tracks I've ever heard, so hard hitting and what you would be tempted to dismiss as anti-establishment guff is actually well reasoned stuff that I never imagined would come out of modern hip hop (aka unadulterated capitalism at it's most depraved). It's so angry and infuriating.

It reminds me of Dead Prez but he comes off far more intelligent in my eyes, also from what I've seen he's a fairly class battle emcee. Dance with the Devil is a bit graphic for my liking, but you always gotta respect the artist's decision if they're making what they want to make.

So what does everyone else think?

His lyrics are top notch but I find he can get a bit too preachy and tends to get wrapped up in his conspiracy theories. His story telling ability is great though. Dance With The Devil, although graphic, is a great story. Revolutionary Volume 2 is a very good album (prefer it to the first one), no weak tracks on it all really. Just wish he would get The Middle Passage out, he needs a new album.

To be honest though I can only listen to him in small doses otherwise he annoys me.

I dunno, the preachy thing is really what he's about though isn't it? He's hardly gonna describe himself as music to chill to. He sees the world how it is and he goes out and says what he wants, I think it's fairly admirable. 'Telling it as it is' without the teller being a self involved martyr.

But it's true, no one really wants to be preached to for too long. But I'd much rather sit and listen to this than listen to an hour of Jay-Z's self indulgence, telling me how class it is being rich.

I'll set to downloading vol.2 though.

KRS-1 and Chuck D could do the preachy thing without getting on my nerves. Immortal Techniques albums are just an onslaught of the same thing, he needs to break the album up by doing different styles of songs. Freedom of Speech on Vol. 2 does that really well. I wish he would make more tracks like that. Still has a message but it's not so heavy.

He was pretty good on the Cunninlynguists album in truth.

Other then that,he really needs some decent producers to back him up.

Never gonna happen really, he's been approached by several labels apparently, but turned them down to the restrictions they'd impose on his lyrics.
