Putting together a home gym

    I am going to start lifting weights shortly. I think at the beginning I would like to be
    able to do them at home so I can practise in relative ease. Im not sure what id need to get
    though. I was thinking I would want a barbell anyways but im not sure whether with a bench so
    that I could lie back or with a powerrack because I would like to do chin ups also.

    Im interested in doing as much work on my legs as my upper body and im not sure what Id need
    for these muscles. I will also be doing cycling for cardio.

    I have ordered scrawny to brawny (thanks daveirl) so I will be using this to devise workout
    plans and routines. I suppose ill know better what I need when the book arrives but provisionally
    I want to know what ill need to get together a budget and stuff.

    Basically any pointers on the type of setup I should use really would be great. Im not planning
    to spend much either...but will spend what is required. Is there anywhere I could even get
    second hand equipment.

    This may sound harsh, but join a gym.

    You haven't a ****ing notion what you are on about. The endless ( and often pointless, as google would provide the answers ) questions that you ask are evidence of this.

    If you were to begin training at home i would fear for your from etc, and at least in a gym you will have more experienced lifters around you to ask questions of and to point out mistakes that you will be making.

    Also, lifting in a gym is far more motivational than lifting alone at home, in my own experience.

    Sorry if the above sounds harsh, but it's just how i see things.

    Unfortunately, I don't have the internet at home man and I only can use it at work at the moment. I don't have time to research and read up a whole lot on these subjects. Maybe I do ask too many questions but I have a book on the way from amazon now so rest assured I won't be annoying you with too many more from now on.

    I have no issue with anyone asking questions. I am well known on this board for responding to any and all queries that people might put up.

    I do have an issue with people who ask questions, but then do not give any sort of feedback on the answer they receive, or do not even say thank you.

    In many of the threads you posted, you just seem to through up your question, people put up good solid answers and that is it. It's always nice for people to know that they fact that they took a bit of time out of there day to help someone was appreciated.

    To be honest i don't see you doing that, and THAT , more than anything is my issue.

    For example, in one of your first threads, myself and i believe SmellyIrishMan spent a good deal of time breaking things down for you, and explaining the whole basis of nutrition and eating to grow.

    At one point i went back into the thread as i could see you had posted something and your question was "how many pounds in a stone."

    Do you really mean to tell me you could not have popped that into google and got a quick and easy response?

    Like i said, i have no issue helping anyone, but stuff like that is taking the piss, don't you think?

    And my initial advice still stands. Forget the home gym, the benefit to you now is not worth the financial outlay. Find a good gym near you to train in, the experience and motivation you can gain from training in a decent gym far outstrips the effort of actually going to it!!! :)

    While it may seem really decent to have everything you need at home, i can guarantee you will make double the gains in a gym that you would at home my friend.

    Im sorry, I did not realise the above quote dragan and I will be more careful in the future to provide feedback et cetera. I really can understand how this could anger ppl. Thanks for your help so far everyone.

    I also have acknowledged that it would be best to join a gym so I will be looking into doing this in the near future.
