Installing RAM

I just bought a 512m stick of RAM for my Acer 1670. I've never installed RAM before but presumed that all laptops would have 2 slots but when I popped open my lappy there seems to be only one slot. Does this sound right or normal?

No it doesn't sound right to me. Are you sure they aren't stacked one on top of the other. My aspire 5500's RAM is like that.

That particular model should have 2 slots.

They're probably stacked as opposed to the more common opposite each other. Is easy to overlook it when you're looking for the other.

This is turning out to be a bit strange. The manual says that there are 2 slots but only shows a pic of the single slot I have found with only one stick of ram. I rang the shop I bought it from and the salesman suggested there might be another slot under the keyboard and to bring it in to their technicians to install the RAM. The RAM already in it is a 256meg stick and that is also the RAM total of the lappy, which means if there is another slot it's empty.
I don't know what to do!

Perhaps there is two slots just as the guy suggested in the shop..its common enough for there to be a slot under the keyboard but in general its the slot thats used first, not the easy access one on under side of laptop. It would be worth your while trying to remove the keyboard and have a look.Thats your only option really.....
