Anyone still playing? Not much activity in this forum. Play Winter Assault online myself a fair bit, but only ever once met another Irish person.

Looking forward to Dark Crusade even though I've yet to finish SP in both DoW and WA...

I only got this today...... cant really run it too well because the graphics on this Dell are internal. other pc has a fx5200 128mb card in it so I might swap that in here if possible,

Butcher, is there any lads still playing regularly?

Any chance you have the GMA900 evad? Amazingly enough, my friend, who is stuck permenantly with the intel gma900 given he has a laptop, can run Dawn of War satisfactorily, even if it is on 800x600, 16bit, options on low. :D

The fx5200 is fairly poor at DoW for a dedicated card, my other friend has a bit of a struggle sometimes in large battles with his 5200, even with options on mediumish, whereas my low end, 64-bit 7400 can run it maxed out no bother.

Love the game play it fairly regularly with a few friends.

    Found this

    http://www.hamachi.cc/

To be very useful for setting up a vpn over the internet for a few friends.

If people are up for a game we could setup a network with a password setup here and you just login the hamachi client and see if anyones around for a game then. Might be one way of having a few games if you're stuck for an opponent.

I have an P4 3.0 ghz (2 cpus) 502mb ram and the internal chipset is 82945G express chipset with a memmory of about 224mb or so.

not too sure about Dell pcs.... are they upgradable? like could I just pop my fx5200 or other card into it? or add more ram myself? or do I have to go through Dell.?

the fx5200 is overclocked slightly iirc but cant judge what it can run well because the other pc it is in is pretty poor in the other departments.

That would be the GMA950 then I think. It runs Dawn of War on all low, which is about all you could ever hope for from Intel integrated. The only problem is that it uses system ram and has no dedicated ram - so if you have 502mb Ram, the GMA can eat up to 224mb of that - leaving you with feck all to run DoW.

The Fx5200 is a pretty bad card but its way better then the gma and would really help out in dawn of war. I think you'll need more ram anyway though...also, regarding the fx5200, it depends on what sort of dell it is. some of them have agp slots some of them don't. Even if it doesn't, which would mean you couldn't use the fx5200, you can buy a cheap basic pci card like the fx5200 pci edition, or a slightly better 6200, which although are terrible for new games and totally outdated are fine for graphically unintensive games like dawn of war and work in any computer.

Just purchased Dawn of War / Winter Assault twin pack.....got excited reading the box, and thought I was at last getting a decent game that played on specs actually LOWER than my old computer.

Unfortunately, I did not read the tiny type carefully enough. Turns out a special video card is required: "AGP", and mine is PCI.

    Am I totally scre*ed?

    Pentium 4 at 1.5 MHz
    1280 MB RAM
Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 PCI at 128 MB

When I tried to run the game, the intro movie was a little blurry, even a bit pixellated. The game itself was bizarre....I only got to the intro screens.....everything is enlarged too big....I can only see about a third of what should be there, and only the left side of it.

Current screen resolution is set at 1024 x 768, 32 bit

The fact that its PCI doesn't really make any difference.

Try both updating your card drivers and patching up Dow to 1.51, an FX5500 should run the game at high settings fairly easily without any hitches.

That is seriously dodge though unfortunately. Obviously I assume you mean 1.5Ghz but 1.4Ghz is the minimum, and in fact 1.8Ghz is recommended for Winter Assault and the new Dark Crusade. :(

So you might be stuck playing on low settings either way, to ensure your cpu can get through the game without stalling...
