As the title says, how do I go about joining MAG Ireland? I'm living in Dublin at the moment, riding 3 bikes, and think its time to support the Irish Bike lobby group - put my money where my mouth is so to speak...

The fees on their website which I've visited appear to be from 2003?? Is there lifetime membership available? Please PM me contact details if you prefer.

    Thanks, Tomohawk.

That's because they haven't gone up since 2003 :) but an increase is likely in November (it has to be voted through at the AGM.)

Not any more as MAG were making a loss on them.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

    i'd agree with you Tomohawk.

but the few times i've tried to join i've always bailed on the fact that you can't pay online.
FAX and post a bit old & awkward for my liking.

not that that stopped me getting MAG insurance discount ... ;-)

    Great, another freeloader.

Real smart telling the internet that you lied on your insurance declaration, isn't it?

    lighten up.
for starters there isn't a MAG discount (anymore). at least with my insurance.

i was just trying to make a light hearted valid point to anyone at MAG administration that sees this.
making it 'difficult' to join makes people like me, who want to support the group, put it off.

hats off to those that give thier time to MAG.

They are not exactly rolling in cash, far from it - do you think having online pay options is provided for free? I make a point of calling in person to the office anytime my subscription is up, their office is in Inchicore, easy to get to, especially on a motorbike ;)

You can always ring them, and pay with ur credit card. Then they will send out your membership card to you.

It was that type of attitude that practically shut MAG Cork down. Some people like being freeloaders. Some people pay their membership purely for the discounts, to support motorcycling, but don't have the time to yap at the Politician's heels.

Everyone is equal but some are more equal than others? Please! And who's to say the poster lied on his insurance declaration. This is just an online forum, you don't know if he posted that purely for sh*ts and giggles to wind you up, nor can you prove/disprove it.

Yeah but the point is they paid.
Getting or trying to get, for free, something that only members should get is freeloading.
Everyone is equal but some are more equal than others?
Who said anything about that? Everyone who joins is doing their bit.

Well, he said that, but whether he did or not only he knows.
I was just pointing out that telling t'internet about it isn't the best idea, if it's true... ;)

well, paypal is hardly going to break the bank,
what is it, 3% per transaction?
if it encourages a few others to pay up then im sure it will help the organisation.

i also have never paid, nor claimed membership, because i cba going through all the hassle

good point. or do a ryanair on it and charge a fee per transaction.

    either way.
i've realised joining is worth the extra effort and i've just faxed through my details.

    OK
so if you try the 'old route' then be warned...
don't use the fax number listed on the web site (Fax: 353-1-4536343) .. its wrong.
    the correct one is 01-4533643.
then make sure you use a BIG font for your credit card number.
    'cause they can't read mine.
