Does anyone else love this show?

I'm already a big Batfan in general (I love the 90's Animated Series and the recent Nolan movie in particular) but unlike most Bat 'purist' I also have a fond spot for this show not because I like the portrayal of ol Bats but purely because it's right down my alley when it comes to sense of humour.

I remember loving it as a kid because of the bright colour and over the top villians but I'm rewatching them now and it's delightfully funny and interesting to see the subversive ironic nature of this show. The show loves to poke fun at itself but also has sly digs at other people along the way too.

For example. I recently watched episode where Batman has to run for Mayor (I'm not making this up! :) ) to stop the Penguin taking over the city. The story basically spends the entire episode implying that the general public are morons and that they shouldn't even have the right to vote. On top of this the final scene involves two (unnamed of course - but obviously the Democrats and Republicans) ringing up Batman to ask him to run on their ticket for '68! Besides the hilarious idea of Batman as president of the USA in itself, its basically saying theres no difference between these two parties and the only thing they care about is getting elected :) Not a new idea to most people I know but really odd to think this was family viewing in the 60's

On top of all the humour I love that they try to frame the show in the style of a 30's-40's cinema serials which I'm a big fan of. Presumably this was in order to emulate the Batman ones of the late 40s themselves? Anyway it works well.

Anyway if you haven't watched an ep in years I reccomend you to check it out again and you might be in for a treat.

I have the film (wacky plot of course) they made from the 1960s on DVD, the extras are quite good on it. Lots of bat mobile talk from Burt Ward and Adam West, how they got together from the show, etc. Don't you love how EVERYTHING in the batcave was labelled? :)

"Lucky we wore our shoes with bullet proof soles today, Batman!"

I know batman was well equiped for any situation, but some of them, were just a tad....god, I don't even know a word to describe it. :D
