Sounds great Odysseus. Did you take any photos while you were there, or where you too busy soaking it in?

Cheers Krusty, it was. It is now much more than a race for me, I love it there. I took a good few, however, as I have loads from previous races I did not bring my camera on the race this year. Below are this years photos. I'm in a few, but as I was behind the camera I not in too many of mine, but I will be getting copies from the other lads I was staying with. Hopefully the link to facebook will work;) I'm the guy in desert DPM.

The people are wonderful, these people have very little, yet they buy us little gifts each day. Language is always a problem for me, I have to use others to communicate most of the time, I have little arabic, however, I must get around to learning Spanish as most of the people there speak it.

More of an announcement than anything else, for varying reasons I haven’t been around for a while. I had to ask a Mod to help me find my training log. Anyway, as I always mixed my training I’m starting with a bit of sport combat tomorrow and hope to be back on the roads within a week. Really only posting this so I can find my log tomorrow, and of course to say hello to those that remember me.

I don't deviate much from the sports sections on boards but I came across above last week.
    Welcome back

It's a fair trade off. I help you find your log, you deal with every psychological issue I have in the next five years;) Welcome back, always enjoyed reading about your ever-increasing backpack.

    Sunday 12th Dec.

Had a one hour MA/sparring session . Took it easy as I'm still not until to full strenght but really enjoyed the session. Hope to maybe hit the roads during the week try a gentle 10k, I still far off endurance level thought. Starting off again is the thing.

    Monday 27th Dec.

One hour MA session as above, hope to hit the roads tomorrow and see how far I can go after such a long break.

    Tuesday 29th Dec.

    Ran 10K 1:07:09

Not the fastest 10k I ever ran but factoring in not running since March and that I'm recovering from an illness, it will do. I was more focused on getting the distance done the time with follow, though with saying that I'm not the fastest 10ker. Anyway job done, finally I'm back on the roads, just have to follow though now.

That's great seeing as you were off the road since March and especially since you're still not over the illness fully.

Any specific goals in mind or are you just focusing on getting fighting fit first?

Cheers mate, no main goal is just to start getting some distance, I may look at something at home if an interesting ultra comes up. However, the hit my wages have taken in the past year make it difficult to justify heading off to the Sahara and Lapland evey year. Yet you never know sometimes things just come together.

    Sunday 2nd Jan

Could only get a 40 min session of MA training. My mun is ill at the monent no too bad but requires a lot of supervision. I has hopping to get another 10k run in. I was fine the day after the last one, a tad siff; but by the second day I had some serious DOMS.

Some very sad news today that our old friend, one of the OGs of the Boards running community and probably one of Ireland's OG ultrarunners sadly passed away earlier this week.

Odysseus, was a stalwart around here in the noughties and any from those days who are still browsing here will remember his posts and his adventures fondly. I remember my early days in these parts, being in absolute awe of the unbelievable adventures some of these runners on boards were embarking on, Odysseus was certainly one of those who blew me away and inspired my own ultra running adventures and beyond.

To those who knew him either virtually or in real life in the olden days; enjoy re-reading his log and remembering his adventures.
To those who didn't; welcome to the wonder.

Other than seeing his occassional updates on Facebook, it is many years since I crossed paths with Séamus but there are some people you can never forget.

R.I.P Odysseus, no doubt you will continue adventuring and inspiring wherever we go next.

Was taken aback when this thread jumped up to the top of my favourites list today. Was very saddened when I opened it.
