i cant find a distance or part time land-surveying course in ireland or in the UK, there seems to be a whole bigger world on line in the states, i've always been really sceptical, I know people would laugh if you had a degree from the university of Kompton or something! but the course could have been very educational, any experience or views?

Well, the one thing to check with American Universities is their accreditation. See from their website if they are accredited, and who by, and make judicious use of Google to find out more about both the university and the accrediting body.
