    Hey guys,

I have a PC where the fan that was cooling the CPU died, went unnoticed and now the chip is now toast. The question is can I get replacement chip? The PC is about 2years old and not used for anything heavy so I dont really need/want to buy new but are any of these chips out there as they are now *old*?

    Thanks

Unfortunately Socket A (462) processors have since gone out of production. You can pick up something secondhand pretty easily (ebay or wherever) - I've bought used CPUs (PIIIs and Pentium Overdrives) with no trouble.

*However*, are you sure your motherboard wasn't damaged in any way from this excessive heat? Could be an issue, especially if there's capacitors very close to the CPU socket.
