    hey all,
can anyone tell me if + or - R discs make a difference to quality as it seems that -R discs are usually cheaper! also does any one know of any good websites selling cheap blank media in the republic?

www.mediawrite.ie is about the cheapest I've ever seen in Ireland. They're quick and reliable too, and don't charge a fortune for delivery.

The difference between +R and -R quality depends on the manufacturer of the disc (you can get poor discs in both variety). There should be very little difference in price these days as well. Some people claim that +R are more reliable but I'm not so sure.

The branding on the disc is also no indication of who actually manufactured it. Mediawrite list the the ADVDINFO for each disc which tells you the manufacturers code. Which one's are best though I'm not too sure. I usually pick a cheap-ish (though not the cheapest) disc. The Datawrite Grey or Titanium discs are usually of pretty good quality, for +R and -R. I've also had no problems with Datawrite Yellows. Never had a good Datawrite Red though, they seem to always be the budget line.

SVP ship to Ireland if that's any use to you they have a very large selection of media.

Just remember that not only is the quality of the media a factor but your writer as well and how it writes the discs, some are better than others.

In the cheaper end of the spectrum generally I would steer clear of anything that's uses CMC MAG, anything that uses MCC should be okay. Prodisc R03 is generally good and TT and Ritek are always a gamble depending on the writer.

Tayio Yuden is king of the hill as they always have been regardless of the format, but you pay extra for the quality.
