Cant get refund from eBay seller

Heres the story: The kids bought me a PC game from eBay seller back in June for fathers day. I had it here for a couple of weeks before installing it. Couldnt get the steam account going as the instructions were not in English.

After a bit of argueing by email with the seller (one of these power sellers based in Thailand although it was thought initially that he was based in the UK) he finally agreed to refund the money if I returned the game. I posted the game and got a "proof of posting" docket from the P.O. I waited about 6 weeks and when no money was forthcoming I emailed him again and he said he hadn't received it. It got to a stage where he said "you may be able to prove you posted it but you cant prove I received it"

I contacted eBay and their response was that as it was more than 60 days from the sale date there wasnt anything they could do for me other than give a link for reporting online fraud. I checked out the link and it is only for reporting fraud where either the buyer or seller lives in the USA.

PayPal cant help as they have a 45 day policy for reporting these issues.

Its not so much the issue of the money involved (about €30 I think) but more the principle.

Can anyone offer up any advice on this subject or has anyone ever had a similar experience.

I'm a bit worried now cos I bought a football PC game for my boyf on eBay - waiting for it to arrive. Same story initially thought it was coming from the UK but Thailand power seller although their feedback is good.
Is it past the date to leave badfeedback on eBay? Sounds like a terrible sitution since you are now without the game as well...I'd still go to lengths to complain about this seller to eBay - make sure you go to eBay.ie perhaps.

I'm off to ask where that game has gotten to? :(

How long are you waiting for it and what method of postage did the seller use? Did you check the feedback thoroughly (previous items sold, see if the other buyers accounts still exist, etc)? If you want to post a link for the game.

muffler, you might have to let this one go and just mark it down as experience. :(

Not just yet anyway. I contacted ebay again as they were fairly dismissive in their first reply where they told me 60 days had gone by so that was more or less that. They did supply a link to reporting internet fraud but it is an American set up and only helps if the buyer or seller live in the US.

After contacting them (eBay) again I got a reply and the guy has asked me to forward all the emails together with the headers. So they must be going to look at this again.

If that fails I am going to contact the Trading Standards Authority in the UK. I had a problem a few years ago and had to contact them and I found them to be very helpful and yes they did get a resolution of my problem at that time.

I will keep you all posted as things develop as this may help other people in a similar situation.
