Just got in Sky basic but can't get RTE1, 2, TV 3 or TG 4. No probs with any other channel but " this channel is unavailable " keeps appearing when I select any of the Irish ones. Anyone know why? tia

you will need to call Sky

you will probably be able to tune in Channel 4 and five while you are getting this message. see the sticky for details on how to tune in

I think you have to get that Variety package to get RTE, TV3 and TG4. Doesn't make sense because they're meant to be FREE TO AIR but the Irish channels are encrypted so you cant get them at all without an Irish card with the Variety pack.

Are they listed at channels 101, ~2, ~3 and 104?

No, No-one ever said the Irish Channels are meant to be Free To Air on Satellite. Free To view is commercially possible, but RTE chooses to regard Satellite as purely a Pay TV system so leave it up to Sky to decide what to charge.

Free To Air on Satellite is not commercially possible for any existing Irish terrestrial TV channel.

It takes a while for the viewing card to activate. They used to be ONLY in the variety pack, so I hope you got that as ANY two packs out of the six packs count as a "basic" package.

Was there a big time period between the day your sky card arrived and the day the install took place
{is your box connected to a phone line}.

Just phone sky for a manual activation.
