Solid silicone implants

A friend is getting a joint replacement operation and they are putting a solid silicone implant thingy in. Is silicone not dangerous? Can solid silicone be broken down or leach out in the body?

    Cheers

Difficult question - there was cases in the past concerning allegedly that silicone implants were leaking in breast enhancement, but to the best of my knowledge, nothing was directly proven that they linked with the symptoms people complained about.

Solid silicone is not the same as silcone gel that was in breast implants pre saline . Cant find a clear scientific answer on web.
