use a 3v card if ur worried, signed up a few weeks ago and has been 10 times better than screenclick ( even before the 02 offer), an awful lot of tv shows on it aswell plus 360 games. Probably because theres not a lot of members yet ;) ( so you get all your first choices, but im not complaining!)

There is quite a lot of controversy and complaints with this company (and the owners), so buyers beware.

Stay away. You can't trust that site considering the type of business it's owners are involved in.
Also, take a good look at the terms and condititons regarding the "free dvd player" before signing up.

if this company is not legit why are the metro newspaper offering a free 6week subscription?? weird.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

if this company is not legit

I think people are saying be careful rather then that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36,634 ✭✭✭✭Ruu_Old

Yep buyer beware is all, there have been a lot of complaints and it is just something to be looked at.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,638 ✭✭✭bombidol

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 595 ✭✭✭hottstuff

The free dvd player is only to get people to sign up.
Not interested myself as i have 8 of them.

I signed up too and have to say great service so far , ok i havent had my no1 game yet but it is only a week old , but the rest have been all games and saved me a fortune , still on the free trial.

Edited to add: 2FM have been advertising them all day on radio about their free trial.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,559 ✭✭✭The tax man

ya guys, is there some kind of code you need to put in?

Some freebie magazine(Choice) that came through the door yesterday had an ad for this crowd.
It says at the bottom of the ad to enter the promotional code "Choice".

    Hope it works for ya.;)

I'm not promoting these guys but all that means is that if you post a review or information about a movie they can use it on the site (on a non-exclusive basis which still grants title to you) I don't think that's unreasonable and has nothing to do with spam from what I can see. This would not include your personal information.

I signed up with the Metro code (42 days free trial) anyways.. added 'The Omen', 'The Ice Harvest' and 5 seasons of 'Six Feet Under' into my queue.

And unlike Screenclick, you can cancel your account the DAY before the trial ends.

What have i got to lose? Used my spam e-mail address (c'mon.. we all have one. That e-mail address used exclusively to register anywhere on the Net).

been with then now about 3 or 4 weeks and i can have no complaints. I've been fairly lazy about sending back movies and I've had 5 so far. All good quality with no scratches etc on them.
I've had the email note saying that they have dispatched my next DVD on the same day that they received the one i sent back. how this pans out in future as they get busier I dunno.

I'm awaiting delivery of the DVD player, appears to be a fairly cheap and cheerful machine but it'll do for the spare room or maybe the bathroom :)

I'll keep ya all posted though as time goes on

Signed up last week for the 6 weeks FREE trial using "METRO" code
So far so good, got 2 films immediately, returned and another 2 out.
    Let's hope it lasts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 669 ✭✭✭sarahn11

am also doing the 6 week free metro trial, and appears to be very good, at the end of week 3 and have had 2 games and 7 dvds, with two more on the way tomorrow. so all in all very good. however, the first game i got was quite badly scratched...but really that was only a little thing. i think the trick is to keep your queue full of titles so your gaurenteed to get at least something off the list, but i havent had any of my top 5 as of yet.

i dont think i'll keep the membership on, because i dont really rent movies, i usually get them online, but i would, and have, reccomended it to friends and loads of people in work to give it a try, if you do rent movies in xtravision or whatever it works out a hell of alot cheaper

I got the dvd player. its branded with Moviestar and nothing else. Background screen when idle has the logo for moviestar. its region 2. not sure if its available for region free. it works grand. no problems at all. 1 tiny thing is that its a bit noisier than other players ive had. but just higher up the volume

So you can get more than one film at a time on the free trial? Which package did you sign up for?

    Their FAQ says:
"I have signed up for a free trial for 2 Movies or 3 Movies packages but I am only getting 1 DVD at a time.

During the free trial period you will receive 1 DVD at a time. As soon as your trial period ends, if you have chosen the 2 Movies 3 Movies package you will then receive your additional DVDs. If you would like to receive your full quota of DVDs now, you can become a full member before your trial ends. Please choose "My Account" then "Upgrade to full membership now". You will be charged for one month's subscription and will be sent your additional DVDs."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,183 ✭✭✭✭Basq

I'm being sent out 2 at a time on the 3 DVD package anyways.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 867 ✭✭✭Maxwell

    Back to this.

Ive actually joined after the rental period and after trying busybee and dvdrentals, I have to say that this one is very poor. I mean I have signed up for a 2 at a time package and Im only receiving 1 at a time and the other one is usually in transit. They don't send the 2 together (i.e. in the same envelope) and you therefore only get 1 on a day and then have to wait for the other one.

    Example:
I had 2 movies sent on Friday. I received 1 yesterday and the other one still hasn't arrived(todays post has been checked)

This is the 3rd time that this has happened.

I have complained, but I got the answer that "well we can't improve the An Post service"

But pissed at that, as that's what there business is based on.

I didn't have this problem with screenclick of busybee.

Have yet to receive a dvd player either.

I've been using this service for nearly a month, still on the Metro 6 week free trial and haven't had a problem so far. Have 3 DVDs sitting in front of me at the moment.

It seems to work best if you rotate your watching, watch one & post it, watch the next and post it, receive one and watch third etc... I've had no probs so far apart from one delivery taking a day longer than expected, but as they say chances are it's more to do with an post than moviestar.

I didn't take the option of the DVD player, want the option of getting out if the service does become crap. But all good so far :)

I cancelled my moviestar subscription a month ago before the end of my 6 METRO weeks - no problems since then

I'm on week 5 of my trial.
I went for the 3 disc package.
Had 15 discs rented in the first 4 weeks.
Turnaround was fast and I was getting titles near the top of my list.
However this week things have slowed dramatically.
They received 3 discs back on Monday morning.
    Nothing sent out Monday.
One sent out Tuesday, one yesterday and none today.
I have a list of about 15 titles ,new and old so its strange that there is such a delay.
