Advice on psychic reading

    Hi all,

Read this forum regularly and am very impressed by the level of knowledge some of you guys have on all things paranormal.

Just wanted some advice on a reading I had done by a very well recommended psychic I went to see while in Melbourne last year. In particular, was hoping those of you who believe they have psychic/medium abilities could help.

The reading I had was generally very good. A friend of mine went for a reading immediately after me (with the same psychic) and when she came out I asked her how much had the psychic spoke to her about members of her family or friends who had passed on and had wanted to communicate with her during her reading. She said not many which surprised me as the majority of my reading was about family members and a friend who had passes away and wanted to pass messages onto me or seemed to providing the psychic with info about me. At least 3 family members seemed to be present and one friend.

I had not requested any information of this nature from the psychic, in fact all I wanted to know was in relation to my future career. But she started telling me about these peope quite early on in the reading. I was delighted of course but after my friend had told me that she hadn't not asked for this info either and the psychic had made very little reference to the dead also, I was surprised at what had happened during mine.

We talked some more and I told her about the fact that I have always had an inexplicable fear of seeing a ghost, I have no basis for this as far as I can remember, (possibly only the fact that EVERY horror movie scares the crap out of me :) ) but I told her that I sometime could not believe how much it scared me that it would happen, yet I am absolutely fascinated by the paranormal, particularly spirits. She then told me that I would see spirits/ghosts at some point during me life, probably nearer my 40's (I'm 26 now) and I just could not believe this as I have never even had any kind of paranormal experience and don't really think that I am sensitive to such kind of things. I just feel that she told me this because she thought its what I wanted to hear, as the fact I said I had a fascination with ghosts would be quite an unusual thing to say? I really don't know what to think. She also said, that my family background was quite unusual, as, in her words, both my extended families were quite 'sensitive' groups of people, not really sure what she meant by that either.

I didn't believe what she had told , and still don't, but on returning from Australia, I was talking with my Granny on my Dad's side and was telling her about the psychic, as one of her brothers had apparently come to visit me during the reading. I then told her about the psychic saying that I would see ghosts and she told me that her mother, who is now dead, had told her that she believed she had seen ghosts twice in her life. That kinda threw me aswell as I never knew that.

So, I've tried to forget about it but it just keeps coming back to haunt me (pardon the pun!) and it really scares me sometimes as everything else she said in the reading was pretty accurate. Just wondered what you guys would make of this??

Sorry for the essay, explained it as best I could. :)

I hate to say it, but it sounds like the "psychic" was just telling you what you would believe. She just read your body language and how you reacted (even slight little movements can give away what you're thinking), and she constructed stories around that. You'd find that if you went to a psychic in any part of the world, they'd probably tell you something along the same lines. As for the seeing a ghost part, well, in twenty odd years will you remember this? And if you do, and haven't seen a ghost, are you going to go back to the psychic and demand your money back? She could tell you anything about your future and be safe in the knowledge that she'd never see you again.

Don't let it get to you. Most psychics seem to be con artists who just prey on peoples emotions. I like to think there are real psychics out there, but as of yet I've found no proof of them.

And don't worry about ghosts. From any experience of the unexplained that myself and anyone else I know has had, it's usually over so quickly that you're left confused and wondering if it actually happened. :) If it does happen, then let it happen. Deal with it then and don't spend your life being afraid of it, and you'll get on grand. :)

    Thanks for your advice Jomanji.

I know I made the fatal mistake of actually opening up and telling her about this fear of ghosts I had but I have to say, up until then, I hadn't told her diddley squat and she literally started coming out with accurate names, how they were related to me, in the case of my friend, how he had died and a lot of other pretty specific information about them. I totally agree with you on how they can interpret body language etc but I still do not understand how she could have come up with the info she did, especially the names and occupations etc of some of these people. For example, out of the blue and totally unrelated to what we had been talking about at the time, she asked 'Who's Peter? You are worried about him'. Peter is my brother who I was worried about while I was away. I told her this and asked her how she knew this. She said my (dead) grandad had told her this. I asked how she knew this person was my grandfather, and she said 'He says you'll know he is your grandfather because you are the only grandchild he has ever met and he died when you were 2 yrs old' - which is all true, she also gave me his name. So I guess I believed her because of this and other similar occurences.

I suppose I just have this idea of what it would be like to see a ghost or spirit, like it will be terrifying or something, I'm sure like you say I will barely notice it. I guess I would just like to know for certain if I possess this ability or not and if so, if there is anyway to strengthen it or channel it.

Well Sag, i have to tell you I went to a medium this time last year when my best friend died in tragic circumstances. I went in the hope that it would help the healing process and it did just that.

I can honestly say, it was the most amazing experience ever. The medium was UNBelieveable. Amazing to the point that the way she said things and the smart comments she'd make I could recognise his personality coming through.

But she told me that he comes to me and asked me how many times in all that he had appeared to me. Now, I have had 6 real vivid dreams where he comes and sits on my bed and talks to me. I was convinced they were more than just dreams and she confirmed this for me.

After the reading she said she was pleased with the session but as I walked out the door she turned to me and said " I know you two weren't a couple but you were soul mates" I turned and smiled agreed but what freaked me out was that she turned to me and said " ye will be together soon""!!!!!!!

Well now you can imagine I nearly dropped on the spot!!!!!........... but I don't dwell on it. Maybe she meant very soon in relation to eternity.

So Sag, don't be fretting about it - if its to happen, it will happen. I believe that if she was accurate about other things & you didn't give anything to her in those instances well then Id say she's right.

There's a theory that we are reincarnated within the same group of souls that we have known before. A mother in one life can be the husband in the next etc... So maybe seeing as how you were soulmates in this life when your friend comes back he will be reborn within your life circle (as your baby perhaps?) and this is what she meant by your being together soon.
The fact that you were soulmates suggest that you knew each other before so it stands to reason that you will meet up again in some other circumstance. Take that as a source of comfort, for what it's worth. :)

Sorry, I know this is a week old, but Im playing catch up.

OP, dont worry about this. This psychic seems to have been accurate, and because of that you are freaked about something she said. Dont be. Any future predictions a psychic makes are a GUIDE only. We have free will and an ability to change, so what she said may or may not happen. Live your life and what will be, will be. And if you do ever see a ghost, chances are it will happen at a time when you will not be scared. (Or at least can deal with it) A lot can happen in fourteen years! In fact, you dealt perfectly well with a psychic reading about your dead relatives that would have frightened plenty of people.

    Hi all,

Read this forum regularly and am very impressed by the level of knowledge some of you guys have on all things paranormal.
While I love a bit of flattery, I'd just like to point out that I don't think any of us here realy 'know' anything, or at least we don't 'know' very much. I think those of us who post here regularly have become very good at expressing our opinions, and in some ways hae become very opinionated, which can seem like the same thing but isn't really. I think people reading or asking questions should always keep in mind that all we really give is our opinions, and people should think them over and then decide things for themselves, and of course take everything with a huge pinch of salt.

She also said, that my family background was quite unusual, as, in her words, both my extended families were quite 'sensitive' groups of people, not really sure what she meant by that either.
In general, ghosts/spirits aren't really anything like the hollywood horror movies, they don't try to scare people or posess them or make thm jump under busses or anything. Depending on who you talk to, they're either just hanging around to look after someone, trying to pass on a message, or can't accept that they're dead and are reliving some part of their life over and over. The reality is probably some combination of the 3 (or maybe none of them ;) ). Either way, there isn't really a whole lot to be scared of.

That said it does sound like you're not really ready to see a ghost, it can be a very strong perspective changing experience, if ghosts are real, then what else is real and what else isn't ? It's something best eased into, not all coming as one sudden sharp shock.

Also, a lot of people do seem to become more 'sensitive' as they get older, while others become less so, I guess maybe it depends on the kinds of paths you take.
