Hi, I have my laptop over three years. Bought it in Aldi, its a Gericom, never had any problems with it at all however my screen was broken recently.

Its completely splintered and I was wondering would anyone know of a repair shop in Dublin city centre that carries out this kind of replacement?

majiktripp is right, it would be cheaper to buy a new laptop
Just checked with the lads in work, most of the repairs were hard drive related.

If there is info you want to get off the machine
it may work with an external screen and a usb h/drive

or you could remove the drive and with an adapter put it into
    a desktop.

Yeah Majiktripp is spot on, replacing the screen with labour costs would be more expensive

yeah. i second that too. however, if u were skilled enough, u can always remove the lcd, read the part number and get one from ebay (there might be some there) and put it up again. i recently did that for a mate's samsung 12.1" :)

no warranties, but at least wasnt junked! :)

And if you do buy a new one you can always sell that laptop in parts on ebay. some keyboards go for 50EUR alone

Thanks for the info, the screen is still viewable but has big black blobs here and there and they are begining to get bigger.

Its really surprising that there isn't a company that does simple repairs considering the explosion in laptop ownership. A friend had recommended trying to take out the lcd screen and sourcing a new one as Spipov recommeded. think ill try that. Cheers

It will be a tough job as a screen alone will probably run you €150-200...is the laptop even worth that much really?
