Wide Angle for Canon EOS

    Hi guys,

Can anyone recommend a decent wide angle lense for a Canon. Doesn't have to be Canon brand, just mount.

My budget would be up to about €400. I have a Sigma telephoto and a Canon 50mm prime, so a wide angle would finally let me ditch my kit lense

    Thanks for any advice

how wide do you want? There is a Sigma 10-20 f4.0 or a sigma 18-50 f2.8. I have the former myself, but haven't used it enough to give you an informed opinion. Several regular posters on the forum have the same lens and as far as I remember, there are mixed opinions.

I would agree the canon-mount sigma 10-20mm is in that price range and is fine. There were some reports of some of the lenses being soft on one side - but I have not noticed any probs with my one.

I came across this the other night. Maybe a little above your budget but it looks like a fine piece of kit. DPreview forums have a Canon lens thread that is not exclusive to Canon makes. You can find it here.

I did try the canon ef-s 10-22 and it was sweet, but not sweet enough to shell out almost twice the 450 I paid for the sigma in Conn's

I went though a long research process recently for a super wide lens and I ended up with the Tokina 12-24 f4.

I've only had it for a week so can't really recomend if yet, but so far so good.

If you're interested in a side by side Ken Rockwell does one here. Obviosly ignore the Nikon 12-24 review. But for what it's worth he says the Canon 10-22 is the best of them all.
