    Hi,
I'm new to taking photos for art instead of on nights out etc but would like some comments, criticism etc for the photos I've been taking. They were all taken in my garden with a 4mp camera.

    Thanks!

This one isn't the best, but I like the way because she is so pale you can see all her individual markings and hairs- this doesn't work at all with my black cat.

Hey, those are some nice macro pictures. They're all vibrant and colourful, and I like the glow effect you got in no. 2. Well done with the butterfly too, they are tricky things to catch! Did you do any post processing in editing software like photoshop? It can be a great fun to tweak your images to the artistic style you like.

I think macro is probably one of the most interesting types of photography. Please keep taking pictures and sharing.

    Hi

The ladybird has too much fuzzy focus next time use a tripod or higher shutter speed.

Butterfly shot is good but needs to be cropped closer to the subject and maybe try sharpening..

You say you shot with a 4mp cam I'm guessing you dot have raw then ?

Like the spider shot but again a little bit of cropping and sharpening....

    Seb.

    I completely agree with Conmike..

Really like the ladybird although needs to be a little sharper, and the spider is a fantastic snap imo, just perfect..

Just had a quick look in photoshop, sharpening does wonders to the laydbird
    I've attached a copy, I hope you don't mind.

If anyome's interested I used the high-pass filter method of sharpening. Its a nice easy way of sharpening that can give really good results.

    In photoshop:
Duplicate your image onto a new layer
Apply the high pass filter ("other" option in filter menu) and adjust the slider so only the edges you want sharpened remain visible
Change the blend mode to either soft, hard or vivid light and adjust the opacity to what works for you.
    Hey presto one sharp image!

A variation of the method can also be found here.

Thanks for all the comments so far! The ladybird does look better sharpened.

I do like that spider photo, nice and sharp. The background draws you into it more. The ladybird one isn't sharp I'm afraid or contrasty enough. More saturation too :)

Good work. Hey it's not the megapixels that counts it you.

I think that the shot of the spider would benifit from a bit of a crop.

Other than that ....... I REALLY like the cat!
