Another AK tournament hand.

Seems like every time I come back to a period of playing tournaments online I end up posting endless threads about Ace-King. It's a hand I almost never want to see when I have a decent stack unless I go up against shorties.

This hand is 4 off the bubble in another $30 on Party. I have an above average stack. I don't try to understand how any retard calls off all their chips with this kind of action with TT. I mean I would probably fold verything but KK/AA in this players position. I generally consider pushing with AK against a bastard who always assumes he is ahead or racing with any pocket pair to be like hitting on 16 in blackjack. It ****ing sucks, but you gotta do it. Maybe this is the wrong attitude to have.

I do know that "Lefort" who is a an extremly successful online tournament player intentionally tries to avoid racing with AK and often smooth calls with it. his argument is that "its basically the same hand as AQ, don't you often just call with AQ?" William thorssen is another very successful player who tends to plays AK very passively (from what I've seen) but at the same time I have seen him totally overplay 77-TT with big reraises which to me makes absolutely no sense at all.

I think in this hand I was a little unfortunate that the shorty woke up with the same hand, and that UTG player didn't just have something like KQ/KJ/AT that he wanted to see a cheap flop with which is often the case. Woudld anyone smooth call here somply because its on the bubble? The payouts are so flat I can really only play for top 3 and I generally have the attitude that I should be more aggressive on the bubble.

    Thoughts?

lol! That's you're answer for everything. :D Does it hurt to at least try and think outside the box sometimes even if it might seem silly at first.

Not very helpful,my friend. Why do you feel one liners are the way to answer genuine forum queries? Its obvious NickyOD is struggling to find a way to play A-K successfully. And you come out with that garbage? If youve nothing better to add why bother answering?
That goes to you Valor as well. I cant understand why people have to be so sarcastic. Its not like Nickys not known on this forum.

I agree with hector nicky, its one thing taking on one with A-K, but once the original raiser is reraised , I'd be inclined to lay it down. You could find yourself dominated a lot, it these situations.

Wouldn't calling be a better option than folding?

Lets be honest here. This is a classic tournament coinflip situation. I don't think Nicky did anything wrong. The hand played itself. Whilst many players would not have made the call with TT, this guy did, it was a race and Nicky lost. I can guarantee you that if Nicky had won this race, there would be no "Another AK tournament hand" thread, simple as that. While you may not think these one-liners are very helpful, I don't think this thread is deserving of in-depth discussion.

Fair enough, and if this was six months ago I'd agree with you 100%, but many good players play AK in tournaments is visibly changing. I'm just trying not to think so linearly.

There is no set way to play AK. In this spot, stack sizes, position and the fact that its close to the bubble make a push very good here imo

A push here against one opponnent is pretty standard, but Nickys up against a raiser and a reraiser. I certainly dont think this is an auto push. In fact I'm siding with HJ and think this is a fold.

The shorties all in is only a quarter of my stack though. The side pot will actually be bigger so I'm basically playing the hand HU. The thing about the shorties push is that my cards are less likely to be live should UTG look me up. I'm still not saying a piush is wrong though but the value of my hand decreases not just because of the shorties push but more severely because this is a tournament where I get looked by Pocket Pairs most of the time.
