Quick ruling Q

    3 players in a hand.

Player A goes all-in on the flop, Player B then takes a while to fold. The first player, thinking player B was the only one left turns over his cards to show a straight draw, player C quickly calls with top pair, the rest of the cards are dealt out and player A hits a higher pair to win.

My question is, should the first player's hand not be ruled dead for being exposed?

Player A's hand is not dead. He's gone all-in and then revealed his cards by error. If he had more money he couldn't bet but he could call bets. Player C got the benefit of seeing the cards and chose to call and if he's whingin now that he got outdrawn he needs to cop himself on.

    I folded preflop ;)

My ruling would be that in this case its not dead because it doesnt materially affect the game beyond giving Player C an advantage.

Didnt this happen in the world series? A player raised preflop with QQ and thought everyone folded and he flipped his cards up. Jamie Gold had called so the hand was played out. the flop came Kxx. Mr QQ checked and Gold bet 10k. QQ folded and Gold showed 66 to take the pot and enhance his reputation as a muppet!

I dont think that was muppet play. Any A or K he can bet and we all know there is at least 60% chance of this happening :D

So any A,K or 6 ... 10 cards (knowing his luck an open ended straight draw on the flop too!) and with his stack he probably was getting value for it

Edit: I should really read my replys before I post

His cards aren't dead. It's an honest mistake. I would only ever kill a hand if its turned over with the intent of getting a reaction or giving information to an oponent.

the hand should not be dead.

I have seen it in some poker books that suggests showing a single card on the river or with an all-in when there is one player left and you wish to sway his decision, (either way).
Would a play like that ever be ruled dead as has, as NickyOD put it "intent of getting a reaction or giving information to an oponent".

You should make sure you know the rules in the club you are playing in.

I was guilty of not doing this last week in the Gutshot. I commented "that's a nice flop" and went to bet. The dealer immediately told me "Sir, you're not allowed to discuss the hand in play". I asked jokingly "OK I won't, is my hand dead now?" expecting to be able to continue as if nothing had happened. He told me my hand wasn't dead, not this time, but I couldn't bet or raise, only check and call. So I lost less than I should have with bottom 2 pair against top set.
