Not naming Names (Thunderdrome)

    Right, small rant.

This is something I think that is ruining boards not just AH. There appears to be an increasing number of boardies thinking they are forum Moderators when they are clearly not. I am sick to the teeth of every first reply being....this belongs here or this belongs there or just general nose poking by Mod wannabees.

If you feel it is in the wrong place just report it, no need to broadcast it and make the OP feel like shoite. ALSO, when I see such posts I think, along with many others postcount +1.

Like I said I won't name names but just give it a rest.

    </rant>

Actually, the usual practice is that when you report a thread you also make a post in said thread saying you did so. This way, a zillion people don't keep reporting the same thread / post.

Thats what i mean. Report it and say reported...simple as, not two or three posters all whining and bitching and postcount +1........

    Yis know who ya are!

Your missing the opening tag of your rant there. Not up to standards at all!

    Give us some names.

But would a person saying 'wrong forum' or whatever, not report the thread, so it's the same as saying 'reported', .

    You are a bit clueless.

If some one posts on the Tech forum asking about a lap top? I would direct them to the lap top forum while adding a disclaimer that a mod might move it.
How does that make one want to be a Mod? It is just helping out a user.
What you see is what you want to see. Given you mentioning post count and that just being a pile of dumbass'ness.

OK relax there with the abuse.

I am refering to a few people here that are doing this site wide repetitively, like I said they know who they are. Its very annoying and new users could be very put off by it.

In there cases they are being smart not helping.

Some people type faster than others. I've often started a reply and by the time I have typed it out two or three people have replied saying similar things.

    This is one scenario.

Another is that no moderators have read the thread yet, and another user voices their opinion because they think that either the users above did not explain it adequately enough as to why the thread should not be there - for instance, a link to the more suitable forum is not provided.

I don't think people do it to increase their post count. I could be wrong, but, I think that's fairly sad if they do it to have ++postcount.

I have to ask you, what do you hope to achieve from this thread?

    that's the thing.
don't bother posting that a thread should be in such and such a place if you are not going to report it.
by all means, do that after you have reported a post.

Well I believe the two and three in question are doing it for ++ postcount and ambitions of becoming mods.

I was speaking with another user today who agreed with me and I would like the users in question to see this, know its them and leave it at that.

I agree julep. What's the point in saying it if it has already been reported and mentioned in the thread. I have given some examples of why it could happen innocently. Perhaps it would be best if we deleted the "this thread should be here" posts before moving the thread. That way their postcount will not be incremented since the post is deleted, and the thread is clean enough for discussion to continue smoothly.

But at the end of the day, I think it's a fairly silly issue to be ranting about.

    good thinking, batman.

there was a sticky a while back about posting that you have reported a thread.
i think it might be an idea to bring it back for a while.

Maybe you and the other user are wrong? Stranger things have happened. Maybe just name them and stop hiding behind this thread?

I disagree. I feel it ruins the quality of the threads. I am not even talking explicitly about post moving, I am talking about mod like behavior that could be quite intimidating for new users. Thats what annoys me.

The reason I am ranting is because it has been going on and on and the users in question contribute shag all to boards except annoy users with their i'm better than you and i know where everything should go' attitude.

Mod like behaviour? Do you mean users being helpful by informing a thread creator that x forum is not the place for y thread, as it would be suited better by z forum?

I don't see how that is intimidating.

However, if it's a case of "zomg lol n00b, gtfo this isn't the place for this thread you eeeeejit" then I could see how that would be intimidating, as that is personal abuse. Can you show me some examples so I can get a better picture of this? Because without solid examples I find it hard to discuss this with you.

It is pretty hard to know who or what exactly the OP is on about without having a clue who he/she is on about. I for one am finding it difficult to formulate an opinion to see if the OP is correct in his/her assumptions without being able to see who he/she is on about. Though my next post might take me closer to the OP's point of view :)

There's no need to name people. She is talking about people posting to tell the original poster that it is the wrong forum. It happens all the time so surely you could find some yourself without naming and shaming.

lol people don't really post messages just so it adds a message to there post count do they? I mean I know that there is a pretty big cross-section of people on here, but I mean seriously I can't bring myself to believe some would post a message on a forum thing like this just to make the little number under there screen name go up one. I'm cringing with empathic embarasment just thinking about the type of person that would do that, surely it's just a myth?

Well, on that Bump game thing in TCN, someone kept posting that they were bumping up their post count, only to be told that it wasnt, but still.

    Yore banned. :)

I think I understand TheGooner. There are few I have noticed that would post and direct the user to the correct forum, thats fine. I do it myself and quite politely put it that way. It is when this other crowd follow on with something like "ye post in correct forum, ye muppet!" or some fool spouting "leave him alone ffs, let him post where he wants" or such nonsense. One person is enough, as mentioned there was a sticky about reporting threads where you could mention why you reported the thread without being in fear of a backlash from the trolls.

yes kind of Ruu but unlike you (who is always helpful) the people I'm thinking about are doing it with other motives. Continuously and it just falls under flooding in my book.
