Is there a delay in getting Sky HD?

    Hey,

Yesterday, a local engineer came to fix our LNB struck by lightning, and we asked about getting Sky HD when we move in a few weeks. He said that there is such a delay in getting HD there isn't any chance of getting it in the Republic?

Is this true? Or is this only a rumour, being that there isn't a big as delay as the engineer said? Would be pretty cool to get.

I got HD a few weeks back. I too had thought there was a long delay and wanted it before the Ryder Cup but when I rang to order I got an installation date only 2 weeks later. Its all up and running fine now. I am in West Wicklow.

Is it worth it? That's a different question, I already had Sky + which is just fantastic and you will not realise just how good until you have it a while and you find "it changes the way you watch TV" to quote the blurp, it really does.

But HD? yes the football is excellent but as discussed elsewhere the amount of HD content at the moment is very small. I am not at all convinced its worth the extra money.

Are many Sky One programmes in HD?

I looked at the day ahead on Sky One HD this morning and found that of the programmes to be broadcast between 11am and 11pm only 2 hours were true HD content (i.e. not upscaled).

he was a technican. or even just an installer

Engineers are too valuable to send out to replace LNBs, and mostly arn't alowed to climb ladders.

Seems to be about 1 week or less if you order and DIY install.

Cheers for that lads. Didn't think there was still a backlog.

    Hi
Anyone know the best phone number to ring to order Sky HD, I don't seem to be able to get through on any of them, keep being put in a queue - thanks

Can you get the subsidised boxes off sky and install it yourself?

I want Sky+ but am really not keen on having a sky installer mess about with my setup. I am not too keen on paying them €75 for a job I'd do myself better in the first place.

I was thinking of getting an unsubsidised box off an independent but there is nearly €200 difference in price.

No, I don't think Sky will offer a subsidised box for you to install yourself.

What about picking up a second hand one on eBay or some such place?

If you have Dish, cable, LNB etc installed and tested with a sat receiver running, then the Installer is very happy only to have to just plug it in.

Even with paying installer some of the Sky oiffers are cheaper than buying a box yourself.

I ordered Sky HD by phone (0818 719 819) on Monday and was given an install date of next Wednesday (13 Sept), but this was after previously ordering (or so I thought) online, which Sky could find no record of, despite me having a printed confirmation of the order from their website. The Sky people (at the Scottish call centre) were also unaware that the Irish website has the HD box on sale at 299 euro, rather than 449 euro
