Firstly apologies is this is the incorrect forum for this query.

I have a Vodafone.ie email address and I am trying to get it set up on Outlook Express but cannot find a reference to the Incoming or Outgoing Mail server anywhere on Vodafone.ie. Can anyone help?

    Cheers

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark here and suggest mail.vodafone.ie.

    Incoming: pop.vodafone.ie
    Outgoing: your ISP's mail server, e.g. mail1.eircom.net

Vodafone won't guarantee that it'll work in outlook, but it seems that you can only receive mails if you have eircom as your provider, i'm not sure why but i presume it has something to do with the old eircell/eircom connection.

    Incoming Server: "pop.vodafone.ie"
    Outgoing Server: "mail.vodafone.ie"

    Correct, pop.vodafone.ie or imap.vodafone.ie (i'd recommend imap4 over pop3 any day)

for smtp, you must use your own isp for sending mail, its a pretty standard configuration.

As a customer of your isp you are entitled to send mail through their servers, but as far as Vodafone is concerned you are an external entity.

Its a pretty standard way of operating and not unique to Vodafone. If Vodafone (or any other isp for that matter) decided to allow access to send mail from any network then they are effectively wide open for being used as a mail relay for spam.

Of course, if you connect over Vodafone dialup, gprs or 3g you can send using mail.vodafone.ie
