Is Ruu a bot? (A thunderdrome thread)

First off, if it turns out that "Ruu" is acually a humanoid, then straight off the bat I must say that I think he's an A1 guy who takes all banter type abuse in the good manner in which it is intended.

    However.

I'm not so sure. The more I think about it, the more I think that this is some sort of security type bot that Cloud has created in his shed. The Ruu never sleeps, never relents, never fails...it is a one bot thread sticking, thread locking, thread moving, thread reporting, thread merging, thread splitting, sig highlighting, muppet banning, machine.

I'll never grow tired of the wonders that one man, a tin of beans and a good idea, can create. Praise be for the times we live in. Praise be for Ruu.

Well the fact that I am 6 hours behind Irish time might be a factor, when you are all tucked in your leabas (or should be!) its early in the good ole USA. :)

And perhaps the 20-45 minute naps are at boards slowest times, interesting...

That to me sounds like some kind of design fault or system error to be honest. Cloud will have to sort that.

Its silly to suggest that Ruu is a robot, pfft. It is a course a complex program (RUU- Resident Unmanned User) designed by cloud to auto moderate boards

As it had become clear that no sentient being can moderate AH without turning into a gibbering wreck (or worse still, WWMan) it was decided that drastic steps must be taken.

Cloud, after minutes of tireless research, realised that boards threads (especially AH threads) follow a definite pattern and thus designed RUU to automoderate all threads based on a complex mixture of key word weighting, heuristics and poster history. The only problem is that RUU's processing is an absolute memory hog, which is why so many boards features have been disabled. Just to free up resources for RUU

No point complaining though, the Admins no longer come here, preferring to leave all the work to RUU while they blow our user subscription's on snorting lines of sherbet dib-dab offa glenda gilsons eyebrows in lillies :( . So you could say if this all blows up we're ScRUU'd

Yeah Ruu is a bot created by vB.

He comes as standard in the new vB and as a plugin for previous versions from 3.5.0 up.

It is programmed to tag words and spider them and reply to them is a "conversation agent manner".

The system in fact uses a scale system of 1 to 10 on importance of words.

10 is excellent and 1 is deemed very bad.
It usually replies to threads with words >5 on the scale and either replies, locks or deletes threads <5.

You may notice boards is slow over the past few months.
This is because Ruu needs all the servers searching indexes to preform well.
Up until recently, the search function was available to all, but since the bot was upgraded it needed all the server to search and thus deemed the search unusable for general users.

The bot Ruu also had one major bug on which cloud is working closely with vB on.
Threads with more than 2000 posts would render the bot unusable in a server manner.
Server CPU usage went up 100% whenever Ruu would spider threads greater than 2000 posts, this in return slowing everything down.

Is the RUU programme, more sophisticated programming wizzardry with neuro-linguistic programming techniques built in or more a vast database of comments, rebuttals, quips and informative phraseology, expertly chosen to be posted in context with pre-set timed responses?

Seriously though, Ruu isn'ta robot. He has bipedal movements so the correct term is computerised automaton.

The Ruu Bot has a sense of humour. A major improvement over HAL in the 2001 Space Odyssey.

Bubbs would the T-1000, he keeps coming back.;)
In conclusion, I am* a bot. I fooled you all, sorry. Regarding why I always seem to be online, well I am 6 hours behind Irish time so it looks that way and as many of you know. I like posting here because it keeps me in touch with things back in Ireland. I always try to be helpful, there is nothing else to it. If you have a problem, if you have an issue with me (or anything else) PM and sort it out. Simple as that.:)

    *not...or am I?
