a thing of beauty

my head is a bit melted. Today I saw a gorgeous, nearly complete car from the fifties in a shed at the bottom of an old gent's garden. he was a fairly sprightly fella for his age, but I got to wondering what will be in my shed when I get to the point where I can't crawl under a car to fix it. I will probably own a car that requires work that I won't be able to do. You can't drive forever. the eyes, hips, something will pack in, and the thing of beauty that you waited all your life for will be rusting in a shed.

His mistake was he didn't beat it into his kids well enough. You're supposed to be able to rely on them for these things.

" Damn you son - wash my 50 year old Esprit or I'll write you out of the will."

The 2 kids next door helped me one day by cleaning the bonnet of my car with 2 sweeping brushes. you can still see the scratches.

Two of my classics - the 1975 Daimler and the 1977 Peugeot 504 (both now sold again) were from guys who no longer could drive, The Daimler was owned by the same guy from new - he had to go into a nursing home. The Peugeot - again a one owner car from nearly new went blind. Makes you think alright.

PS - I saw a lady at a garage washing a nice black 2004 Audi A6 yesterday - yes you guessed it she was using a long handle brush - I would dread to see that the next time in the sun. I suppose the moral is never send the wife to wash the car.

I know where I'd get the long handled brush if I tried that.
