Alright guys....finally going for my first self build as I've finally got some €€€

Just planning on upgrading my whole machine. The whole lot.
I've decided on a Duo 6800. Seems the best bang for buck for the Duos from what I've researched during the week..
As the title suggests I'm looking to get my mits on an Asustek P5W DH Dexluxe. Looks the bussiness and has Intels 975 chipset.

Overclockers.co.uk it for €226 (This week only)
Elara have it for €242.83 (They have this one too for a few bucks more...what's the difference?)

I can't seem to find it anywhere else online for in and arund the €230 euro mark.

I'm still deciding on other parts (GPU, RAM, PSU, case, cooling etc)
Just want to decide on mainboard & CPU first.

The PC will be used for video editing and I'll be using VMware quite a bit.

Maybe get back into the gaming scene too *Sniff*

Can you guys just throw some links for online shops?
Any german sites? They're usually pretty competitive on pricing.
    (PS I'm an e-bay virgin)

I'm more or less gonna use this thread to get my ideas down and links to various parts etc

    Cheers

The X6800 seems like the best bang for the buck ?

    It's 1000 euro ?!?!

How the hell is that the best bang for the buck.... the E6400 or E 6600 probably are.

I'm not upto speed on the prices of conponents at all.
    Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX
Is that the going rate...I guess there's probably not much in it.
Is it a good choice? (I'll probably overclock down the road)

Can you suggest a good 600watt PSU? (or point me in the right direction for reviews etc)

    I'll probably get a 7800 hundred video card......undecided.
The little bro is a big gamer so I'll get something decent for him.

A few years ago I'd be the one firing over the suggestions but nowadays I'm lost with all the makes/models

That's what you get for not staying upto speed I guess.

    Cheers in advance!

yeah not a bad case at all, the ram is fine also, good speeds, but dont worry about them unless your gonna overclock. But just use your head when buying, like you said you were up to speed a few years ago. so you know what makes are good and bad.

I see you've a decent setup yourself there.
Where do you suggest one goes online to get one's credit card raped?

    Is overclockers.co.uk the best?
I used to use komplett meself.

It's looking like this so far: (overclockers)

you have to use a few sites ot get the best value:

    komplett overclockers.co.uk

    www.over-clock.co.uk

    www.watercooling.de

Are the eonly ones i use, main reason being i can trust them if i need to rma

PogMoThoin gave me some ideas in this other thread.
My budget would be in the region of 1000 euros but I'll nadd the odd thing or two down the road. (cooler, second sata drive, etc)

Just need a decent base system running first as I have a 21inch monitor, 5.1 speakers, etc.

forgot to add shop4memory.co.uk its a irish site with a uk registered domain.

on pricing things dont forget to take into account of shipping and conversation rates from £ to € when using uk sites.

If you're looking at cases, the Antec listed here is brilliant and gets brilliant coverage.

    £91.99 x 1 - Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-061-GI)
    £214.95 x 1 - Belinea 102035W 20.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black/Silver (MO-003-BE)
    £67.99 x 1 - Seasonic S12 500W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply (CA-001-SS)
    £144.99 x 1 - Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-127-IN)
    £124.95 x 1 - GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL)
    £169.95 x 1 - Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (3056) (GX-047-CO)
    £44.95 x 1 - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music - OEM (SC-043-CL)
    £33.99 x 1 - Logitech G5 Gaming-Grade Laser Mouse - Retail (KB-069-LG)
    £14.99 x 1 - Logitech Media Keyboard Elite - Retail (KB-066-LG)
    £31.95 x 1 - Scythe Ninja Plus Heatpipe CPU Cooler (Socket 478, 754, 939, 940, LGA755) (HS-003-SY)
    £4.95 x 1 - OcUK Value Floppy Drive - Black (HD-001-OK)
    £20.95 x 1 - Zalman VF900-CU Quiet Copper VGA Cooler (SY-008-ZA)

I just ordered all that kit off of OcUk. I think you can save a nice bit of money by getting the gigabyte DS3, if you won't be overclocking.

If you're not overclockign you can get PC-5300 instead of PC-6400 and save a few bob.

The coolers that come with the graphics card and CPU are grand aswell unless you're overclocking.

For a case I got a P180 from komplett, for some reason overclockers shipping calculator puked if i added a case to the order

    For HDDs i got 2x Seagate 7200.10 320Gigs.

The X1900GTO2 on ocuk special this week looks like probably the best deal going on a graphics card, its basically an X1900XT except downclocked a little bit, it still has all its shaders/pipelines/whatever unlocked.
