    Hey

I want to buy one of these airsoft guns as I have a paintabll gun but cant really find anywhere in the west of ireland which would willing to fill up co2 tank. Whats the best site to buy one of thse guns and just guide me on whats involved, have no clue about airsoft, and I just want some one to sum it all up in one post and advise me.

Thanks, sorry for lack of effort in searching, but I am used to paintball.

    Shortys94,

Firstly you have to decide what you want an airsoft gun for, ie for skirmishes or back garden target practice (or both maybe). Do you want a pistol, machine gun or rifle. Once you decide your priorities it makes it a little easier to pinpoint a certain area.

Currently, once an airsoft gun does not exceed a muzzle velocity of 328 feet per second (1 Joule) then it is regarded as a toy, so remember when you are looking through listing on sites make sure the FPS in UNDER 328. Anything above that and you could be inviting trouble.

Next there is the choice between an electric gun (they come with a rechargable battery), ie AEG's. There's gas opperated guns, but you probably have more of an idea about them than I do ;) , and there is your basic spring operated weapons which are usually cheaper (except for bolt action snipers etc) as you have to cock them everytime you take a shot.

Theres a thread at the top of the airsoft forum here with a list of retailers, and recommendations, have a look through them, remember though, if you're buying outside of Europe you run the risk of having to pay customs charges etc, so shop wisely.

    Anything else just shout ;)

seeing as you're a paintball guy i'll just say something extra.

328fps is faster than paintball but don't worry it's safe, because of the weight of the bb it is about one thirtenth the strenght of paintball

You have to pick an actual gun, like a real steel gun and you can get an airsoft replica of it.

Lots of people have M15/4 and other variants. Mp5's are popular too.

Its handy to get an M15 type rifle as you can share the magazines with teammates. Prices vary for whichever gun type you pick, price usually = quality, so a good rifle will cost a bit. Like Harekin said, 2nd hand one might be a good idea. Id say €300 at least for a high quality one anyway.

And high quality is a must of you ever intend on skirmishing...you'll be outgunned in every respect against people with high quality guns.
