I Need A Big Bulky System!

    Hi Everyone,
Sorry if this is a repeat post, but I doubt the specifications are...

I am thinking about upgrading my IT system (affectionate term for the plan to replace my Dell!).

I would be looking to build a PC, no problem, I know computers inside out, it's just more what I need to put in it, seriously, this is gonna be a problem... I need to handle the new Flight Sim, which won't go on most factory builds now...

    - I need 2 seperate harddrives, one for games, media, etc and another for work and documents, and the operating system (total of about 350GB Space).

    - I need about 2GB RAM and A Very Big Video Card

    - The Best Chip & Motherboard (most realiable high cap. ones).

    - High Powered Fan, and other such componants, (etc.).

    - DVD Burner and seperate CD-RW Drive (complicated I know, but from experience I like being able to use two at once).

    Any ideas at all????

    budget ?

Sounds like an ordinary pc to me, no extraordinary special requests.

    Quick question,
If you know PC's inside out why ask for advice?
Its not that "Big" of a PC in fairness.
A decent graphics card is really all that is "specialist" about it.
    Budget?
And is this a cheap attempt at advertising in your sig?

Just edit your original post to say this is my budget, I play games(flight sim) with high graphics demands, and use this monitor or plan to buy this monitor.

You will recieve adice to buy the intel 6600, x1900/7900 and the rest. All falls within a budget though.

I'll put my new pc in my sig next week when it arrives and is set up, then you'll be able to see what a real monster is these days :p

Flight sim will run on nearly everything, my laptop for instance! Running at full detail, well thats different. I can't do that on my main PC. Since you don't know much about it, I suggest you pay someone else to build it for you. Me for instance :D

Theres a specific topic running over here...

I think all the self-builders here have scared him away. :p

Come back OP, we don't bite :p
(affectionate term for the plan to replace my Dell!)
    Nice move.

The best processors these days are the Intel E6X00 series of Core2Duo. Uses an Intel Socket 775 board.

Nothing really unusual about your requirements, go to Komplett for the components.

I've self-built about a dozen or so of my own pcs down through the years.

When I started, just like the OP, I was in 'throw-everything-in' mode.

The big problem I found with that is the noise. More drives = more heat and more noise. The cooling systems on most high-end GPU's are pretty hardcore and can get very noisey. I used to disconnect the on-board fans on all my Radeon cards up to the 9800 series, but I wouldn't dream of doing it with any GPU made in the last two years or you'll fry the card.

Thankfully, I grew out of the 'big-is-beautiful' mindset and my last self-build was about 2 years ago using the Shuttle make of mini-case. I was inititally dubious about going for a system with just one PCI slot, but then again, how many cards are you actually going to install? It's all about horses for courses.

Some people go for speed, I go for quietness. My goal is to build a virtually silent PC with enough clout to run stuff like BF2. This I could almost do using the new Shuttle fan-less PSU unit, but I'd still have to keep my Radeon x800 cool using the noisey on-board fan.

Generally bigger boxes can be cooled easier and thus are easier to make quiet.

well, dont skimp on the PSU and or case. Always worth the extra dough. Like the guys said, we need a budget.

I have to say your post is a complete contradaction though.

What flight sim are you running? Xplane?

Aww, I feel everyone hates me, ah no problems, and no it isnt a cheap attempt to advertise my website, I have plently of more efficent, easier to organise and less likely to recieve back commentary ways of getting publicity, and have used them too, just looking for some nice practical advise...

Flight Simulator X is the name of it, effectively a Microsoft product.
Em, really anything upto about 2,200e would be great, any ideas...

Oh yea, have upgraded parts before, just wondering if anyone had any practical non-explosive-resulting advice... because I'm not too sure about everything around fans, video cards and RAM.

    Thanks Again,

The DS3 will cause no end of problems with its ram incompatibilities, since you have the money get the Asus P5W DH Deluxe from OcUk.

    What about the E6600?
The X1900XT is a saner purchase.
You can get some PC6400 ram from memory-configurator for a similar price.
Do you really need two hard drives?
Do you really need two DVD burners (those are also white on a black case)?

Thats all the picking I can think of.

They don't really have much of a selection of conroe mobo's on Komplett. Was tryin to do all the shoppin in the same store. Asus would be my choice also but komplett don't have it.

Read the first post, says he needs a massive rig. Also says he needs 2 hd's that are 350Gb & 2 burners. He could buy value ram, the big question is "is he gonna overclock"? He said he needs a big cooler, so i presume he is. I just put a few things together quickly, wasn't lookin at colours.

The MSI power up motherboard (if you want to stay on komplett) is probably better when it comes to ram compatibility. Most of the P965 motherboards have issues with 'good' ram and won't boot until you use some 'crap' ram to get into the bios and change memory settings.

Edit - If he wants to save money he could set up a partition rather then getting two hard drives, I'm only looking to save guy some money.

I don't really think he needs a system as "Bulky" as this really, i'm just showing him what he can get for that budget. I think his needs are way less than he imagines. I reckon an any ordinary system with a good gpu would be able to run the simulator software he's on about & do him for his business. Its up to you peeps to put something cheaper together & try to convince him that its good enough. :D

    Hmm,
Interesting enough, Well I'm just waiting for one job to come through so if I get it, I'll get back to you all, but thanks a million again for all the help, and don't worry I won't be running back for a factory build again, this yoke took 1 hours to turn on today between stalls and everything, so I'll check this out again soon, kk?

Thanks A Million, I really do appreciate the advise, and "PogMoThoin", I'll keep ya in mind, kk.

    Many Thanks & Regards, :)
