Katie.. Im a girl... yes... a girl on the internet, it happens ya know!

I am a programmer/engineer obsessed with music. Hails from Kerry. Dwells in Limerick. Studying PhD, sigh.. only things that keep me sane is my music and increasingly my lightbox and glass. In my spare time I have been a semi-professional singer, and once upon a time I had a social life as well !!

Mostly I wing it... I dont know what Im doing with my camera half the time.. I just chance my arm and hope for the best. I cant take pictures of people so I stick to what I can do.. places and stuff :)

Thats it ... now.. your turn :)

Hello ,my real name is Brian
    I'm a gas installer by trade/day time job ,
always have the latest gadgets and gizmos ,just a big kid really.
Have started using a camera since last year ,just hope over time I will have a few shots I can be proud of.
Music is my favourite thing of all things ,hopefully I'll get into doing gig shots and night photography.

Don't forget to look up at the top of the forum at the photo challenge ^^^^,took me ages to realize it wasn't just a post.

mloc... I'm a boy (well, i guess legally I'm a man, but that's for the courts to decide!).

Live in Dublin, right beside UCD, as I have for 90% of my life. Final year Pharmacology.

Other than photography, my life consists of music, gym, going clubbing, meeting new people, getting into trouble and being generally controversial.

Got my first 35mm slr when I was 21 (won't say how many years ago that was) and went digital this year with the 350D. An avid photoshop fan. I like macro, bit of landscape, and trying to learn how to point my camera at people now, too...

Scottish, from way up in Inverness originally, now living in Dublin.

I do tech support to pay the bills. Well, some of them.

Apart from photography, you'll find me making cards, possibly making pretty swirly silver things with wire, or watching something directed by Joss Whedon (Angel, Buffy, etc).

Oh, and I have an enduring obsession with Lord of the Rings. No, really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

Calina, recent digital convert, womanhandling a 350D. I take pictures of the landscape and adventure sports and foreign places.

Worst thought: "damn, I wish I had my camera". Two photoblogs and a textblog. I probably should tell people about them once in a while.

Prior to the 350D I plied my photographic troth with an Olympus OM10 and took many pictures of interesting landscape.

Otherwise, you probably don't want to know about the books I read, the music I listen to, my travails in getting tapestry thread, my issues with soap watching flatmates or the food I cook. I'm really quite an ordinary person when you think about it. Apart from the tea fixation.

I'm MeleKalikimaka, A young man of 21, perpetual student studying engineering, Dublin in location, always had a thing for photography, got of my ass this year to take it more seriously, mainly into live music shots but I'll give a stab at anything(my friends may find humour in that statement but thats another topic more suited for PI)

According to my Flickr profile my name is Cormac, so I guess that is good enough for me

I'm a software programmer living in Dublin, and I'm 26 (27 tomorrow!)

On a whim I bought myself a second hand Canon EOS 300 I saw in a camera shop window about 2 1/2 years ago, as I always thought photography would be interesting. Spent most of my early time in the Temple Bar darkroom printing B&W with a friend of mine who took it up at the same time, which I still love (B&W, not my friend, though she is lovely).

Got a 300D about a year later and have been doing mostly digital for the last while as I don't really have the time or space to be doing a lot of film developing or printing. I love it though, so I imagine I will go back to it a lot more when (if?) I ever get my own place and set up a makeshift dark room.

Thinking of upgrading my digital to a 30D, but I also want to build up a good lense collection. For a long time I was using the kit lense from the 300D and 300 along with a €99 telephoto from Sigma!! (yes I know, not the best lense in the world) But slowly upgrading, have a Canon 50mm f1.8 and picked up a Sigma 70-300mm APO telephoto when I was in New York last. Next on my list is a wide-angle so I can finally ditch the kit lense.

I have absolutely no idea how you guys afford L class lenses with IS and USM focusing, but I imagine it is some kind of kidney smuggling ring....

I think the most important thing in photography is to be self-critical of your own work. It is the only way to improve. If you can't find 10 things wrong with your picture then there is something wrong with you :D

Right, well if that isn't enough for identify I don't know what it is.

Oh and I'm SINGLE ... for all the ladies out there

My name is Dave and I live in Clonsilla (about 10km west of Dublin). I am married and we have a thirteen year old daughter.
I bought my first camera in 1972 for my first holiday in a sunspot (El Arenal in Majorca). It was a Kodak 110 instamatic with electronic auto exposure. I then bought a Praktica slr about five years later and later a number of other 35mm and 6X6 cameras. I have kept most of the cameras (except the 110 which I traded in).
I have been interested in photography off and on since then and for the last year have been using a Canon 350D.
I have just bought a Sigma 105mm macro lens from AC-Foto so I am hoping for great inspiration and better results.
By trade I am a project manager following on from analyst and tech support.

    Hi my name is ...

Alun, actually, strange as it may seem. It's a Welsh form of Alan, but I'm actually English by birth. According to my birth certificate I'm 49, but I don't really pay much attention to that :)

I had my first camera when I was about 10, a Kodak Brownie of some sort, and developed my own B&W films in my grandad's home darkroom. Since then I've gone through a plethora of cameras (I won't bore you with the details, but my favourite was an old russian TLR, a Lubitel 2) and now have a D70s, Sigma 70-300, SB-800 and hopefully a Sigma 10-20 on the way for Christmas, plus an Olympus mu-digital 500 P&S for when a dSLR isn't really suitable.

I've travelled around a bit, and spent 7 years working in Germany, and 13 in the Netherlands before moving here 5 years ago with my wife.

As far as work goes I dabble in a few things, mainly computer and network technology related. I'm into hillwalking in a big way (most of my photos are landscapes!) and am also a keen woodturner (orders taken for christmas presents :) )

Danny, Community Development Worker and enjoy working with people and promoting community development, local politician on Trim Town Council (Cathaoirleach-Mayor this year) and mad into acting and directing. Age, the oldest here i'd say, 52 but certainly not the wisest. Photograph in fits and spurts because I'm so busy (in my head anyway) with other stuff. I find messing around in PS theraputic, especially after my dad died recently.

I love a good discussion, arguement even, provided it is not personal and we can have copious pints afterwards. Was a "professional" photographer doing paper work and weddings but have no business brain and don't want one either. I felt that wedding prices, wholesale and retail, were a rip-off and couldn't bring myself to charge enough to make a living from it.

Really enjoying the freedom now. Canon 10D, long in the tooth now but still a great camera. Going to change next year. Hoping Canon release something like the mythical 3D before I go to New York in March.

Love music and play a bit of harmonica, bodhran and played drums years ago.

Last but certainly not least, I have a wonderful wife and two fantastic "kids".

My research work involves optical measurements of fluid flow so that helps with the techy stuff plus I get to play with a big laser. Its the worlds biggest speedlight!

Hi all. I'm John, originally from Donegal, but have slowly migrated south to Waterford via a looonnng time in Dublin. I write software to pay the bills

First camera, was a really basic second hand Kodak 126 (sort of 35mm in a cartridge) when I was about 10. Progressed through a succession of point and shoot film cameras (I still have a soft spot for the little Canon Ixus APS I have, even though I never use it now, it's so dinky, and took some lovely pix in its time), and went digital and SLR 2 years ago with a Canon 300D.

I love doing landscape stuff, and am quite fond of macros too

I'm Paula, (a girl) I'm 21 and finished my degree in Industrial Microbiology in UCD in May. I just started a new job in a call centre, before that I worked in a well-known game shop.

I've been taking photos with a passion for about a year and a half properly. I got my SLR (350d) in January of this year.

Thinking of doing a short night course or something soon to properly reinforce stuff i've been teaching myself.

I take photos of everything, would most like to get into taking Stills for Movies.

    Good evening,
Ronan O'Keeffe here, from Waterford. Lived up in Dublin for three years while doing the Diploma in Photography in DIT. That was a while ago now.
I fell out of love with photography and have only recently got back into it. Basically because I forked out a heap of cash on a 20d with kit lens and grip, a 70-200 f4 L and a 100 f2.8 macro in the hope that it would act as a spur to get up off my ass and do a bit. Well it worked, I'm still retraining my eye but hopefully I've got a few years left in me yet!
I'm into the outdoors and wildlife, rock climbing, walking and mountaineering and above all, travel.
When I'm not out and about I like to while away the hours in The Drones Club (Spraoi heads know where I mean) with all the other fops and dandys :)

    here goes...

Paul, 34, originally from Drogheda, but living in Ringsend Dublin for the last few years. Software Engineer for a large software company from the American north west.
Love photography and have done since I got a present of a canon ixus several years ago. I now have a Canon 300D having gone through a samsung digimax and a Minolta Z1, and an old Pracktika that I got off of ebay for a tenner.
Married with three girls, 20 of whom are just 10 months old, so really I haven't photographed anything in the last year, except them, there's just no time ! Was considering taking up golf in the new year, bit think I could probably (and should) spend the time working on my photo skills and technique.
I don't really have a favourite style or subject, but when I have the time, I'm working on putting together a kind of project on my local area - Ringsend, Irishtown, Poolbeg, lansdowne etc.
Did a basic SLR course last year and found the development side of it fascinating, but I definitely prefer digital.

Tarakiwa, there is a photo club in Drogheda (called the Drogheda Photography Club, funnily enough), my old chemistry and maths teacher is a member - give him a shout in St. Joseph's CBS and he can give you all the details.

    Hi all

John is my name and I am a farmer based in west Kildare, just turned 40 and have a wife and 4 kids.

While I always had an interest in photography it was more from a looking than doing point of view. I had various compact point and shoot film cameras over the years, but when I developed an fondness for messing around with computers I decided to get a digital camera and a friend of mine brought me home a Fuji s5000 from the USA. That got me thinking more about trying my hand at some photography myself and led me to buy a Oly E500 at the end of last year.

Apart from keeping all the above going, myself and my father breed and race a few greyhounds with varying degrees of success.

HI my name is Keith and I am originally from Dublin but live in Dunshaughlin at the moment. About 2 years ago I bought a horse with my girlfriend which sparked my interest in taking pictures. I started with a 1.3 mp camera phone and progressed to a 5 mp Vivitar, then a Panasonic Lumix FZ5, and then a Canon 350D. Camera goes everywhere with me as most days I call up to Spirit. I work in Coolock as a machine technician and have been there for 18 years (I am 35 at the mo) I am getting more into getting paid work in photography, did some work in the Polo club in the Phoenix park, and also some commissions for individuals and their horses. Hopefully will get more and more photography work... :)

Good idea for a thread :)

Hi, I'm Johan, 35 originally from Netherlands and been in Dublin 8 years. Am self employed as IT contractor and do system admin for various smallish companies.

Started photography some 22years ago, with a praktika SLR with screw on lenses ... tis still the most robust and reliable camera ever had ... everything was manual so plenty of time to tinker to try get the elusive perfect shot ;)

Upgraded to a Canon EOS 1000 few years later, which I still have but has been gathering dust for last 7 years. Only recently added a 350D to get back in the habit and will be reviving the 1000 for some b/w film projects :)

Hi, my name is Dan and I am a 23 (soon to turn 24) Waterfordian. At the moment I am studying Mechanical Engineering in WIT, though I have spent 3 years partying at the University of Liverpool too and somehow came away with a Construction Management degree in that time.

My interests are many and various, despite the obvious I am also interested in; Cinema, reading, swimming, cycling, running, orienteering, hill-walking, climbing, travelling, computer games and generally mooching about. I always want to try and learn new stuff and my proudest and most recent achievement has been to learn how to juggle.

I've been taking photographs for 3 or 4 years now. I started out with digital, first with point'n'shoots and then with a Canon 10d. But I have recently regressed to film cameras using a 35mm Canon 300 and an Arax 66 medium format. While I mostly use the Canon 10d my favourite is the Arax, it is an all-metal mechanical monstrosity and a joy to use.

I tend to take photographs of anything, though I guess landscapes and public events would be my most common subject matter. Throw in a few macros, abstracts and still lifes and I guess that leaves portrait photography as my least favourite category.

Hi, I'm Michael, I hail originally from Germany, but been living in Ireland for over 8 years now (they Won't let me back into Germany, so I have to stay here for some more time). According to my counting I'm 24, even so the government claims I'm 34, but you know you can never trust the government. I'm working in IT during the day and study Archaeology and Classics at night.

I started photographing in school (mostly holidays) and then stoped for some while and started again in 2001 when I was living for some months in Greece and Turkey, first with a film P&S and then soon bought the Fuji FinePix 609zoom. I'm trying to do a little bit more serious photography for the last few month and just recently took the plunge and bought a Canon 350D and am very happy with it.

After spending a couple semesters with film SLRs I finally bought a Nikon D70s and I love her, I will have babies with her.

Starting 3rd year in two weeks.

Hi I'm Niall. Used to have a digital camera (half decent model at the time - a HP Photosmart R707) until someone sat on it.

I run a digital photo lab for a relatively large retail outlet where I do photo cleaning and other alterations - and print photos for customers on glossy, matte and canvas paper.

I'm Timmy, and it's been far far too long since my last photo. First year college has taken up my entire last year so it's about time i got back on the wagon. Hopefully I'll have some shots up for c&c in the near future.

Hi, my name is John I’m 29 (soon to be 30:( ) and I’m from the northside of Dublin. I’ve just got back into photography after a few years so splashed out on a Nikon D200, Sigma 105 EX DG 2.8 macro and a Nikon AF-S DX VR 18-200mm 3.5-5.6G IF-ED. I only have it a few weeks so hope to have some shots up soon for some C&C. I use to have Pentax MZ 60 SLR many moons ago and I have to say it was great for low light shots. Hope to make it to a Boardsie meet someday.

Jaysus all dis coz 440Hz was worried about people avoiding the forum ... intro it is then ...

My name is Simon ... I work in sales for a large Telcom Equipment maker ... I'm 39 ... live in Dublin ... but love to travel ... especialy the remote places.

My interest in photography was always there but I'd say it was envigorated and given a real lease of life about 3 years ago during a 3 month trip through the remotest reaches of South America with a bunch of strangers on a big blue truck (see www.kumuka.com and look for Patagonia high road) ... the driver and a few of the other passengers were big on photography ... so it was difficult to avoid their passion ... which really ignited mine ... and I have not looked back since.

I am about to start an evening course in photography and digital imaging at NCAD ... I am hoping that this old(ish) dog can learn a few new tricks ...

Like so many others in this forum I am a serial geek ... with all the latest gadgets including what my friends have come to call the "Digital Integrated Living System" ... which is in fact a PC I built to control all the fun things in my home ... and to house photoshop CS2.

I use a Canon EOS 20d with an assortment of lenses from Canon and Sigma ... I also have an EOS500 film camera bought second hand in Buenos Aires during the aforementioned Sth America trip after my digital camera fell into a volcano ...

... yes your eyes are not deceiving you ... a volcano ... and it was a live one too ... so no way was I hiking down into the magma to retrieve it!!

Looking forward to meeting another boardsie ... your all a bit mysterious and elite to me at the moment .... :p (this is the nearest smiley to tongue in cheek )

... may even join your society now I'm back to being a scrounging student ... though if my memory is clear (and is not really) college societies in my day were more an excuse to indulge in wine, women (or men depending on your preferences) and song ...
