Got ntl's mmds digital basic+choice package as I needed multi room and was not willing to pay €15 for skys. My question is this, the lads just hooked up the new cable to the side of the house where the old conection was. From there it splits into two,one into the lounge and the other into the bedroom. My understanding was the signal comes down the cable into each room and is unecrypted by the pace box so you can watch the tv. But for some reason the lads stuck this box (see pic below) in the lounge, the ariel goes from the wall socket to this, from this to the pace box and from the pace box to the tv. The box has two power cables, one to feed the black box and one to feed the pace box. The problem starts when you turn the black box off the lounge tv no longer gets any tv stations, understandably as you have turned of the pace decoder but some how this little black box when turned off also affects the tv upstairs. I thought these two tv's worked independently as they are split into two seperate cables at the side of the house, so each room has its own cable coming from the main feed on the side of the house with a pace decoder in each room. So what I am wondering what does this black box do and how does it affect the upstairs feed when its plugged into the downstairs feed, is it something to do with the spliter on the side of the house?. Sorry for the long post but was not there when the lads where installing

The box is some sort of power for the MMDS aerial. All MMDS installations I've seen have this mystical power supply.

Though with any multi-room MMDS installations I've seen around here, they put an extra aerial on the roof for each TV - is this required, or are Chorus just shít?

The Pace box is probably a digital cable box (DVB-C) and operates on VHF/UHF frequencies. MMDS works at 2.4/2.5GHz region and needs a downconverter to shift the channels down to VHF/UHF. The black box is powering the downconverter.

    Exactly true.

Dude, Sky beats NTL hands down. You are as well off going with SKY.

On Sky Sports, Saturday Night, You can pick your game on Football First. Think you can do the same with the Sky Sports package that NTL sold you? Can you sh!te. Instead its "Highlights from A Football Game"....tossers:rolleyes:

I hear you IT but the brother is the football fanatic in our family so no big deal for me. Also I could not justify paying €15 a month for multi room viewing
