City Centre Gym reviews.

    Hey people,
I know there is a Gym review sticky but there is currently only one city centre gym reviewed.

I'm going to College in Aungier St and would be looking to join a Gym around that side area of town, I know there are a few around there, YMCA and one opposite whelens on Wexford Stret upstars.

Basically what I would be using it for is to increase fitness and gain muscle mass. I read this forum regularly and am making adjustments to my diet. I'm not quite there yet but when I get more towards what my diet should be I will post it up.
Living at home means that my mother still shops for me so I will either have to shop/cook for myself or ask write out some lists for her.

Also I play rugby which is fairly competitive but I would be one of the least well built on the squad and am not very fast either so a bit of muscle mass and increased stamina would improve my game vastly I would imagine.

Anyway cheers if anyone could help me out.

    regards
    Luke

There is a gym in Kevin St alright, but students still have to pay for it and it is fairly poor, not a lot of equipment and no free weights or bench bar if memory serves me correctly.

The fitness forum is getting quite busy, so my question quickly went onto the second page.

So bumpity bump (for the one and only time)

    cheers

Just walked by Crunch yesterday and thought of this thread. Looks very slick and expensive for a college student. Have they got good gear? Looks like it belongs on dodgeball.

go in and have a tour. Its not massive, and does get quite busy from 5-6pm. Its 530 per year for a student or 53 a month.

The gear is good. Only a 2 lane 20m pool if your big into your swimming it might be a bit small.

Is anyone a member of the Fitness Dock on Camden St? What is it like? I've had a look at their website. It doesn't look anything fantastic and is seriously expensive (esp seen as it doesn't have a pool).

Hey I was just in the fitness dock today asking about prices etc.
They have a website www.thefitnessdock.ie but when I went in they seemed very reluctant about giving out set prices.
I just popped in saying can I have a look at the prices and the lady said I will get a membership consultant for you, I said no it is ok I really just want to see the rates. Anyway the membership consultant came in and asked what I was interested in etc.
He gave me what I feel is a very good rate of annual student rate at €299, that includes all the classes which they run, which seems to be a lot, Spin Classes, Box + circuit classes, pilates and about five other ones that I wouldnt have a clue what they are, (Pump and sculpt anyone? P N S Clinic?)

Anyway the place looks very clean and very well run, the only disadvantage is that there is no pool. I'm not a big swimmer but I find that a slow swim/ stretching in the water seems to do wonders for the muscular recovery.

Also I was looking around temple bar to have a look at the Crunch Fitness place, where the hell is it?

hmm, walking along the quays it's left before the millenium bridge, hmm which left. i think it's before the subway. it's not far from the quays itself.

Cheers, I was driving back along the quays towards oconnell street and spotted their blinds on the window above the big spar I think it is.
I'll check it out next time i'm in town, however the fitness dock place seemed nice, reasonably priced and less then a three minute walk from college.

if you want a real gym where they keep animals locked up training all day in a basement,, where everything is hard core. where u will be motivated to go that extra mile (or be **** scared) one or the other... look no futher than Power House in dominick street... this place is hardcore i loved training there but be prepared for a shock

    @topdog8.

Do you know what the opening hours are for that PowerHouse gym.???
Is it the type of gym where you would get good advice on bulking up or is it just a place where you train by yourself with no instruction? I need to be training in a place where i can be motivated.. If i was training with like minded people who would be able to give me training and nutrition tips for bulking up that would be ideal. How long did you train there for ?

That gym would be handy for me to go to from work.. Its just a 10 minute walk out of my way.

I am a member of the fitness dock. to be honest it is not the best gym around of the most fancy with no swimming pool but it has all the essential equipment witha squat rack and bench press in one and a smith machine if you want and a good range of dumbbells going up to 40K.

Also there is never much of a wait on any machine and there are lots of hot polskis!!
