Have a look at these selection of hard drives. I have one of the Westie My Books (250gb model) and they work great, decent price too. Not too sure about monitors.

Aldi stores have a fine 19" monitor for sale at the minute, can't remember how much but when they were in last time I got one and no issues to date, they have 250gig hard drives too...

Also re: a monitor if you don't want to buy one new, put up a wanted advert and you will more than likely get a decent second hand one from someone off boards.

www.Dabs.co.uk do a value range of tfts, the 19" is around €140 and its excellent.

Dunno if its any help, But seen 320GB Freecom External drives in PC World for 139.99 The other day.
