Are there any people here in any translators' associations (Ireland)? Or done any exams to become a translator?

There is the irish translators and interpreters association...I'm not personally a member, but have a degree in languages and do some part time work as a translator...Membership of the organisation is desirable, but not a requirement to work in this profession. Reputable agencies will ask for a sample translation and decide upon that, whether or not to give you work..You would be expected to have a qualification of some sort though....

Reputable translation agencies will usually ask for a degree in translation as well if you wnt to work in-house (or proof of experience as a translator).
