    Hi Guys,

Im having a problem with a laptop in work, windows had corrupted on it so it was reinstalled and the laptop is now running fine, however the original My Documents folder is producing an access denied error when we try to open it and there are some documents there we are trying to retrieve. Anyone any ideas how to get past this?

Slave the hard drive to another machine with windows XP pro on it,When logged in on host machine, browse to your My Documents folder on your hard drive, Right click on it, select security, when the new window opens, select advanced in bottom right corner, then in new window again select ownership top tab.In this window you will be allowed to take "Ownership" of the files in your My Documents folder, giving you access to them on the host machine allowing you to do a backup.

Alternatively what you could do is boot up safe mode (im presuming that ur administrator credentials wont be password protected) then ull have pretty much access to everything on the HDD including the stubborn "My Documents" folder.

Otherwise you may be able to find that if you right click on the folder and select "Run As" then if ur IT guy has higher credentials he may be able to open the folder on your behalf...

or boot into the pc using a live linux cd like knopix. and copy over the information and move it to a different folder :)
