    Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a decent and varied set of dumbells, and a decent bench. I want them to be good gym quality, not Argos style crap ya dig.

Are there any good websites i can check out prices and such? Or does anyone have any recommendations?

    Thanks,
    Dan

There's not a lot wrong with Argos cast iron regular weights + dumbbell handles. They will be much the same as the stuff you'd get in VJs, Gymratz etc. Make sure you get CAST IRON not chrome or vinyl (the latter really are awful)

It depend on what sort of level you are at really and how much you're willing to spend. It sounds like you are thinking about getting a set of fixed weight dumbbells. You will probbly find a set like this will work out very expensive. IIRC fixed dumbbell sets in VJs are around 600-1000 Euros. Olympic dumbbell handles are also quite dear.

My brother has bought lots of weights from Argos, think they do up to 15kg plates, and they're the cheapest per kg around. Think there's a 25-50cent difference between argos and the rest, and it's perfectly good quiality.

The largest plates they do is 10kg and yeah they are very good value. They are about 85 cent a kilo cheaper than other places

    Eg
    2 x 10 kg cast iron plates from Argos = 22.99 euro
2 x 10 kg cast iron plates from other shops = 40 euro

Yep, biggest cast iron in argos is 10kg. They do olympic set that is very expensive. I most of my stuff there and it is fine. I got 2x20kg 1" plates from Mickk here. I would hold out for him to get his stuff in, it promises to be far cheaper that any other place in Ireland, and will be rated to huge weights. He said the plates should be as cheap or cheaper than argos, I am sure he would do you a deal if you were buying a lot of gear.

Mickk should have his stock of gym equipment in the next 2 months, I think they are on it's way from china as we speak and he will be selling good quality benchs so if you leave it for a while he will be offering good quality benchs at a reasonable price soon enough.

For weights it depends on how much you want to lift, if yo lift big and want room to progress an olympic weight set is the way to go. Mickk will be selling these aswell but you can get them in argos aswell.
