Find out about Council permits for posters?

    Hey folks,

I pass by posters every time I go to work, about banning embryonic research (and details about a meeting they're having for it).

From what I understand you need a permit of some sort, probably from the council, to be allowed put up posters on lamp posts. Do the posters go through any sort of filtering process? ie. Could you get a poster put up about a white supremicist rally? Who's in charge of issuing the permits? (who decides what goes up?)

Also, is there a number I can ring to find out whether the person who put up the posters actually has a permit? Or someone whose attention I can draw to them?

And finally, how illegal is it to cut them down? :D [just messing BTW]

Well its 125 Euro for every piece of litter (posters. flyers etc) that the corpo pick up. Its pretty easy to pick up a permit for this stuff once you have a cause and some money, which these people have wheter you like it or not.

arent posters that are up for a month after an election subject to €1000 fine per poster?

Would this apply? It is a campaign after all

i think theres a special thing for political posters
cause theres literally so many of em, and they would gladly leave them up to spread the public image of the candidate.
while most of the the socialist party/abortion rally stuff is time scheduled.so if its up too long it does more harm than good as its the wrong information. theres loads of loopholes in that crap anyway. its rarely enforced.

Those posters really irritate me. They've a picture of a 6-9 month old baby with the slogan "Don't use me for spare parts". Whats the implication there? That babies are going to get cut up for their organs?

I was very, very tempted to remove one of them from the telegraph pole across from my house, but knowing my luck, I'd be caught.

Those "Don't use me for spare parts" posters are f*cking disgraceful. They should be all ripped down and recycled.

I was actually gonna cut one down on my way to work, but thought I'd find out if the Council will do that for me (ie. if they have a permit for them).

That's what I wanna know really, is there a number I can ring that will tell me if X has a permit to put up posters.

I suppose cos of the amount of them up it would be silly of the group not to have one...

Maybe I'll bring a little snips to work with me today :)

    EDIT:

Yeah the "don't use me for spare parts" posters are the ones I'm on about.

If the poster is of an offensive nature , well then it can be reported to the Gardai
Section 7 Of the Criminal Justice (Public order Act) 1994
7.—(1) It shall be an offence for any person in a public place to distribute or display any writing, sign or visible representation which is threatening, abusive, insulting or obscene with intent to provoke a breach of the peace or being reckless as to whether a breach of the peace may be occasioned.

    (2) A person who is guilty of an offence under this section shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £500 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 months or to both.

Saw these around Naven. Based on where they are put up I am pretty sure they do not have a permit at all to post them. For example I saw one taped to a lamp-post. They are put up like what we see around election time.
