    hey

found this fella crawling around the floor last night. I didn't want to hurt it so I just put him in the bath and tried my best to get some shots.

The spider wasn't happy being trapped so it was moving around trying to find a way out. I had a hard time keeping him in frame and the shape of the bath made it quite hard to get in close enough for full macro shots.

I guess looking back I could have put him in the sink instead of the bath giving him much less space to run around in. Maybe even a jar or a glass could have worked.

I should have put a coin in or something to give him some proportions type thing. He was actually quite large, his legs would have spread across about 4 inches or so.

anyone know anything about these spiders?

anyhow, any CnC appreciated. All Taken at f8 using a sigma 105 ex dg macro and SB800 flash gun. Adjustemtns made in PS = levels + curves + USM.

    Good pics,
it's some variety of Huntsman I'd say, although I stand to be corrected.

Most insect photographers trap them early morning when they are nice and docile and the day hasn't warmed up yet. They then chill em in the fridge and 'pose' them. They should recover so long as they are not too cold.

I have tried a few minutes in the freezer for other insects (bees mainly). But was a bit worried that this fellas legs may freeze through in the process. I guess the fridge is a better option. Will try this next time.

    thanks for the tips.

Well I wouldn't do it myself. Poor little bugs! Besides my fridge is full of body par....oops

Like the first one, unusual composition.

I think that the freezing/chilling in the fridge is pretty much frowned upon in wildlife circles though :)

They are some really great shots! I like the 1st one the most! There something about pictures where you only see like half of the subject that makes them really appealing to me!

    Well done anyway!

LOVE the first one, the composition is great.

You're all very brave, I'd die rather than go near a spider!
