XDA Exec - Alternative software to Activesync?

I'd like an alternative to Activesync. I hate it.

I wanna be able to backup my XDA Exec info to my desktop so it can be easily restored to another one if lost, or to this one if the battery goes.

I'd like a way to view my XDA Exec screen on my desktop screen when connected, to allow me to sort things out via my PC when I'm at home.

    Intellisync perhaps? [ http://www.intellisync.com/ ]
I don't know if it'd work as well, or be an improvement - I have no experience other than using it with a CLIE (PalmOS. Came bundled).
