No membership on Sunday's!!

I want to have a little rant please. I just went to a new gym in Tallaght with all my training and swim gear. I annouced at the front desk that I wanted to join. ( I had previously viewed the gym, so didn't need to be shown around). to which i was told that "the membership team are not working today so can you come back tomorrow?".

I have worked in this business for long enough to know that if I ever said that to potential member...i would have been in big trouble! (not least for the fact that money was rejected).

Its sunday and I am in work tomorrow which means that I will not get to that gym until late....and as it is my first time in this gym I don't want to be there for my first workout when it is extremely busy!

Am i being unreasonable or is this common practice in gyms in Dublin!

Looking at it from the sale point of view I though "WTF". I mean how hard can it be to get you to fill in a form.

Chances are you wouldn't have been able to use the equipement straight away, you normally need to have a session booked with an instructor first.

Seems to be common practice. Same thing happened to me the first time I tried to join Westpoint Total Fitness in Blanchardstown. At least they let me phone in my membership the next day though.

That's b0ll0cks, no gym actually goes through with this unless you chase after them and what they're going to give you is probably going to be pants anyway.

Any gym will allow you to use the equipment with or without an assessment booked in.

With regards to the membership the gym I'm in in Tallaght which possibly is the same one work a small crew on sundays as its not a very popular day for members to go.

The membership team control accounts and that and don't wory Sundays, whats wrong with that! It is a Sunday after all, what was wrong with going down on a saturday? here is an idea, instead of ranting why not ring first to see if a) you could use the gym straight away after joining and b) they membership team are actually in. Now that wouldn't be too difficult would it?

Also most gyms are open until 10pm these days so its not like you wouldn't have time to get there after work!

Thanks to everyone who replied. I appreciate all the comments. To be honest I really hadn't expected there to be any problems with joining on a Sunday. Haven worked as a Membership and Sales Administrator in another large club in Kildare, I thought reception would take over from the sales team at off peak times!!

Lesson Learned! I'll ring in future!!
