    Hi There,

A friend of mine has just made me aware airsoft is now legal in Ireland and directed me here :D

I am very interested in getting into the sniping side of it.

    I have been looking at the Marui H&K G3 PSG-1 W/Battery & Charger on http://www.uncompany.com.

Seems a bit cheaper that UK sites, but I understand you run the risk of 28% import tax?

But as a rule, is this site reliable and what about the rifle?

    Cheers

If you get it from outside the EU you'll get charged import tax. UNCompany are supposed to be seriously reliable and provide a savage service tho. Its up to you. However if you order from the UK you wont get hit for high delivery charges and import tax...your decision!

well reading throught the site, the tax is a lottery by the sounds of it.

just want to find out their delivery times next i reckon, i am very impatient once i decide what i want :D

what about the gun? its electric, nothing wrong with that, or would people recommend gas......

    i am a complete N00b :P

    cheers

There are also some nice bolt action snipers that require neither gas or battery, just muscle power :), if you wanted to take that sniping option.

I'm getting a VSR 10 as soon as I get a few shipping quotes from a number of UK retailers I contacted. The VSR is £145, a bit dearer than other snipers on the market, but from all the reviews I read its WELL worth the price.

Electric is fine, handy too because you can just plug it in and recharge it, with gas you have to order refills etc, but its a matter of personal opinion. From what I have seen here it is a gamble with ordering from outside the EU, and it aint a nice experience having to fork out extra dosh at the door for your package, I decided to order from the UK, the 17.5% VAT is added, so no nasty surprises.

Good luck and let us know how you get on ;)

To be honest Wanton, starting off with a sniper rifle is generally a bad idea...you'll probably spend most of your time dead in a skirmish if you try be a sniper and not know what your doing.

Remember when your buying a gun, that 328fps (feet per second) is 1 joule, so you want to get as close to that as possible. So if you see a nice gun that seems a bargain (like the Steyr on speedytoys for $89) then have a look at the fps. In this case, its is 260fps which is only 0.63 joules, so not very powerfull. Aswell as this, make sure you check if the gun is fully auto (like an AEG) or if it is single shot (requiring you to re-cock the gun after each shot). Just because it is a replica of a machine-gun/sub-machine, doesn't mean its actually fully auto :) And also keep an eye on the weight of BB. They might say it shoots at 300fps but be sure this is with a 0.2g BB and not the lighter 0.12g BB. Because 300fps with a 0.12g BB is only 0.5 joules which is crap!
Just some tips to make sure you know what your buying.

Cheers Shigsy. What do you think of this pack? The gun fires @ 0.5J, which isn't close to the limit, but for the price it seems pretty good! I can't really find any other decent guns for circa the same price on that site :( (wanna use that site cos of free delivery!)

Would the G36C be sh*te in a skirmish?

The way it seems to be is that some sites are cheap for guns and very expensive for postage. Others are expensive for guns (or a crap selection) and good on postage. I decided to screw the postage cost, pick the gun i wanted, and bite the bullet on postage :)

    Have a look at this...
    http://www.m4airsoft.com/g36.html
Its not the gun i bought but it seems cheap to me for what it is. It says 300fps but doesnt say if thats with 0.2g or 0.12g BB's. For that price, id say it must be with 0.12g but if not, then it seems a very good price! Postage isn't too bad from that site from what i remember, someone here bought a gun off them recently i think.

been looking at one of these now....http://www.precisionairsoft.com/item1620.htm

    not sure thought.

not going US, EU seems expensive and Asia, can see something this big getting throught!

just bought an mp5 from actionhobbys.co.uk, they've some semi-decent guns for around £70-80 upwards, and postage to dublin was only £17 (not listed on site but i emailed about it) my gun was shipped on thursday and it arrived this morning, very happy with them.

they also have a cheap-ish steyr aug for £85

Wanton: the build is reasonably good, mostly plastic (decent tho) and a few bits of metal (trigger, sights, selector switch etc...)

havent had much of a chance to play around with it yet, just fired off a few shots last night to see what it's like (it was 11pm when i got home, didnt want the neighbours complaining)

there's a full review of it here if your curious. the one in the review is the mp5-j, but the only difference is the stock is slightly larger on that one. ill let you know a bit more when i get a proper chance to try it out this evening.

well, just had a decent play around with it, printed some targets and made a little catcher with a carboard box and some newspaper, accuracy seems to be reasonably good at 30-50ft, easily hit a target on an a4 sheet of paper at that range, so id say about 6 inch groupings at that distance.

also tried to fire directly between a gap between two garden sheds at about 80ft (gap is about 10inches) and managed to go through no problem

not bad considering i wasnt wearing my glasses so couldnt see the target perfectly.
