RTE and TV3 - Carlow

    Hey Guys,

    Brought this up here,

    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=51967083#post51967083

I was sent this a way! Basically my parents watch rte1 and two and tv3. They can get fine reception on rte1 and two but tv3 is a nightmare. They need to adjust the rabbits ears for it to get even a reasonable reception and then need to redjust when switching back to rte 1 and two.

Id like to know what options are available to me. Is there one outdoor antenna I can install that will pick up all of these channels. What will the reception be like? What other channels if any are available to me?

    TIA

    Jumpa

As you're in Carlow, you're likely picking up reception off Mount Leinster, so the reason 1 and 2 are good is because they are VHF. Ideally, you need a loft or external setup with a Group A UHF aerial and a VHF aerial diplexed, should give you proper reception on all 4.

also rather annoyingly polarisation is different, vhf channels are vertical, uhf horizontal, didnt rte get an allocation for uhf for rte 1 and 2 for mount leinster? couldnt they just start using it leaving vhf in place?

Yes and probably yes, but they've not bothered at any site yet.

They were supposed to change to entirely UHF years ago but for reasons I don't understand:
    1) The Dealers objected
    2) RTE actually listened to dealers
