My start menu has disappeared, it still occupies a certain amount of space but I can only access it with the windows key.

Is there some service that I can restart or something, it doesnt come back after a restart.

was anyone bar yourself using the pc before this happened?

the reason i say that is someone could of taken a printscreen of your desktop then hid your taskbar as a practical joke.

No, I'm not that easily fooled ;)

It still takes up the space that the taskbar would, as in, when I maximise a window it extends as far as where the taskbar should be.

Might sound stupid but you sure it not just dragged down, do you see any bit what so ever? Try putting your mouse to buttom of screen as far as it will go and click, while keeping it click pull mouse upwards. Might be a bit insulting to you having suggested this but i thought i would anyways :)

No I updated the day it came out.

Actually I just restarted the explorer process there and its reappered, doesn't really explain why it didn't come back when I restarted though.

like i said do a system restore, looks like part of your reg has gone awol. Worth doing a full av and sw scan too.

I couldn't be bothered tbh, building a new pc next week. As long I can still use it there's no problem.

I also have a bit of an issue with system restore and its restoration of spyware and viri.

I was going to say the same thing. I'm always fiddling with that drag to make more room for open program shortcuts etc and sometimes I end up dragging it off the desktop altogether.
