I don't use taxis very often and I won't even be in the country that weekend :) so it is not going to worry me. The problems extend well beyond taxis. Better service on other forms of public transport would help. It is crazy being in the city centre at 11:30pm, with thousands of people around, and suddenly all the buses stop completely, only to come back an hour later with a very limited service. If more was done with public transport taxis would not be such a problem. Even some taxi drivers I have spoken to would be happy with more public transport around.

There has never been a shortage of taxis, despite what people tell you. The real problem is the shortage of other public transport. At 11:30pm we don't have long queues at taxi ranks and a huge amount of people on the streets trying to flag them down because of a shortage of taxis. It is because of a shortage of buses or, more to the point, the fact that from then for an hour there are no buses. Even when the Nitelink does come on, it doesn't serve where most people want to go and unless you are near Trinity College, they can only be stopped to get on at a few other stops anyway. So sort out the problems in other areas of public transport and taxis won't be half the problem that they seem now. As I said, even a lot of taxi drivers would be happy with that.

**** them. They make too much money anyway. The only thing Im worried about is its another way to make Ireland look bad tourism-wise.
To be honest, just by the nature of the debate being one started by taxi-drivers, I am automatically biased.
Whilst I have spent the majority of my taxi trips staring happily out the back window being ignored, I also often find they are frequently ignorant, and many of them make throw-away racist, sexist, moronic comments. They think they own the roads and have no qualms about breaking road laws.
These people lobby so they dont have to wear seatbelts.
    Thank god for darwin.

OP, I'm going to lock this as there is a massive thread on this issue already where I'm sure you or others could air your view. If you want me to reopen or merge it with the existing one send me a PM and we can discuss. :) Thanks.
