After I'd polished my car I noticed that there were a lot of swirls in the paintwork. Very noticeable in direct sunlight.

Anyone know of somewhere I can get it polished properly or treated to remove them?

The materials in some cloths can cause these marks. A good buffing should remove the marks. Another cause can be tiny bits of dirt in the cloth. Quite common if the car is not spotlessly clean before polishing. Most valeting outfits should be able to sort this out for you.

Prevention is better the cure - Swirl marks are caused by car washes and washing yuor car with sponge, the sponge holds dirt on the surface and it acts like sand paper. Wash the car with a lambwool washmit and use two buckets one with the car shampoo and the other to rinse out the washmit. This will substantially reduce the amount of swirl marks on your car. The following website has guides on how to remove swirl marks they can be removed by hand or with a radom orbital polisher. Hope this helps.

What type of swirls? Spiders web or random lines? Your best bet is to buy a gently abrasive polish, I would suggest Mothers or Meguiars scratch remover.

Take it to a panel beater and he'll polish it out with a machine polisher.

Not swirls but an example of what can be done with annoying scruffing/abrasions with some elbow grease and Mothers Scratch Remover (and an old pair of pants!)
