Hi guys, I'm trying to track down a suitable modem card for the following machine. OS is Windows SBS 2003 and I'm going to be configuring it for fax routing.

    HP ProLiant ML350 tower server
    Xeon 3.0GHz proc
    1GB RAM
    RAID5

    Card slots:

    2 x PCIe
    1 x 64bit 133Mhz PCI-X
    1 x 64bit 100Mhz PCI-X
    1 x 64bit 66Mhz PCI-X

I'd prefer an internal solution, just to keep things need in the cabinet! Thanks!

As far as I know you can plug a standard PCI card into a PCI-X slot (it does works the other way), but it will only run at PCI speeds. Also, the entire PCI-X bus speed will be reduced to 33MHz (standard PCI speed) if a PCI card is on the same bus. This may or may not effect you depending on what you have in the PCI-X slots.

As such, any standard PCI modem should work, as long as there are Win2k3 drivers for it, or if it's a hardware modem it shouldn't need them.

To be sure, an external serial or USB modem might be the best bet though. I'm not aware of any PCI-X specific modems that won't effect the bus speed.
