Have yet to check mine, but my battery has started to look a bit off

Right, so my battery *IS* in the serial no. range (6C537 DL7S9ZD), and my laptop's serial no. shows up as fine -- but the Apple site won't recognize the battery serial no!
Damn. Think I'll try again in 24 hrs...

In fairness it's not Apples fault, it was a battery they bought in.

Having exchanged my battery on the previous programme, I have to say the service was excellent.

Oh, I know; it's all that dastardly Sony's fault :p

Anyway, seems that the 6Cxxx - series batteries have to end in a certain 5 hex-range now... so that's why I don't qualify :(

    Hiya,

I have a problem with this system too. I looked at the http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml06/06245.html site and my SN fell into the category but not on the Apple site. Can I contact Apple via email to ask them about this?

    Concerned Mac user,

    Craig

You're sad that you didn't get a faulty battery? :D

I didn't even qualify for it, just changed a few bits of "information" on the form :D

    HA :D !! Nice one.

tywy, you do not need to worry as it would be the older ones from last year and the start of this year. All the new laptops would be fitted with the differnt batteries.

Does anybody know what happens when the battery comes? The Apple Rep said to me that I must send the old battery back in the box which the new one will come in. But what do I do? Do I give it to the same delivery guy or do I have to post it away from the post office??

I got my new battery on wed. Only took about a week i think.

    red_bairn:

After you get the new battery, there are instructions for draining your old battery first. Then you just put it back in the same box, slap on the prepaid returns label and give UPS a call. They should collect it the following day.

Hmm... can the system really be abused?
My battery IS sticking out from the laptop by a good 1 or 2 mm, so I'd like to get it replaced.

That & a fresh new battery for nothing is sooo enticing.....

Sad Professor Thanks for the info. Can't wait to insert a new battery into my baby!:D

Mmmh... I inserted the wrong battery serial number - by accident!! ;) - and got a confirmation email 2mins later...

Now what did Wikipedia say about storing Lithium-ion batteries in the freezer again... ?

K.O.Kiki, my old battery and new one both sticked out a bit. Mind you, its an ibook so its not the only thing sticking out (keyboard, trackpad etc).

I think i read somewhere that if you don't send your old (correct) battery back they charge you for the new one. Of course you can just say it was a mistake :) but i don't think they'd be too happy and could still charge you.

Since the box is only so you can send your old battery for recycling, and it's entirely voluntary to do so -- they can't charge you.

You'll probably get away with it. But I know with some of the previous battery recalls people were told they would be invoiced for not returning the old battery. However I didn't receive anything saying this. I'd imagine it would be too costly to be running after people and with Sony (or whoever made the battery) picking up most of the bill, Apple probably aren't too bothered.

They say it takes between 4 and 6 weeks, Salamander, so there's plenty of time left for it to come. I ordered my on the 2nd, received it on the 13th.
