went looking for a bagless vacuum cleaner-but the concensus say they just lose suction and you end up emptying every 5 seconds. Theres a philips one for for 221 in argos, but cant find any reviews. So next one was a VAX http://www.vax.co.uk/6140.asp
Its not bagless, but should do everything and more we ask of it. Can anyone tell me of any others i should be looking at? Dysons are good but you need to spend 350-400 on a decent one with good build quality (according to online reviews)
    Apreciate any help!

Spend the extra money on a dyson, hopefully will last forever. Well you get a 5yr warranty standard and build quality should be top :D

Do you have a Dyson? If so, how do you rate it?

I personally don't think they're as great as they're promoted to be. And they do lose suction, and need filters changed.

Personally, I still like using bagged cleaners. That way I'll not end up in a cloud of dust emptying a jug, just throw away the bag! :)

This one seems to be a decent price with alot of functions. Might buy the philips one 2mo as the offer ends in argos 2moro. So i might try it out and just bring it back and buy this one instead. We'll wait and see. A quick google of dyson revies dc-08's etc say bad things about suction and build quality.

We recently bought a Dyson DC-07 Animal. It was on offer in B&Q for €270. Did a bit of research before buying it and it seems as though this is a discontinued model, but at the price thought it was good value. Anyway we got it and set it up and just trying it on the living room carpet it picked up an amazing amount and the carpet had only been hooved the day before with our old bagged vacuum. I have to say that we are incredibly impressed by it. It is a bit more noisy than the old hoover, but emptying is not a problem. You can see when it needs emptying and all that you do is take off the front and take it to the bin and pull another switch and it is empty. I have to say that it is one of the best purchases for the house that we have ever made, especially as we have two small kids and a cat!

Best of luck with this, I had a DC7 and it was great for about six months then it began to gradually disintegrate, lost suction (particularly bad on dog hairs) , hoses split and the cardinal sin as far as Dyson are concerned began to blow dust back out. Granted it was repaired under guarantee and I couldn't fault their Customer care but I got so pissed off I eventually binned it after about 2 years. Put me off Dyson for life.

We've had a dyson for 4 or 5 years now and its still going great. Emptying the jug out is a pain but it doesn't need it that often. The only thing that might make me change is one of those Roomba (robot vacuum) or Scooba (robot mop) things but I haven't seen one in action yet and you'd still need the hoover for the curtains, stairs and furniture.

Having no carpets also helps though :)

I bought one of these Henry Vacuum cleaners over a year ago. They use bags but are great. Have decorated the house and used it for all sorts of stuff and it's great... have also dragged it down the stairs and it still works well.

plus it has a little smiley face on the front...

    They have them in argos

Have a Dyson animal and love it.. the car kit is very handy too..

There is a shop in Airside near B&Q, I think its called Home or Home Store and it has great Dyson deals. I got the car kit for €30, its €70 everywhere else!

car kit? Are you drunk right now?
-oh i thought it was a handsfree kit for your hoover, thought it was a bit over the top. Then i did a quick search and realised its an accessory pack for your car!

The Vax that washes as well as vacuums is it? Argos do them, so might be worth starting there and use their price as a guide if nothing else, and then try buyign cheaper elsewhere! :D

better half wanted another Dyson, DC07, €230 on pixmania, suited me as I was getting a TV off them so combined got €12 off with recent thread advice

just bought pet vax 3-in-1 cleaner from vax. This thing is amazing. Its hoovering is a million times better than our miele which was twice the price. Our carpet looks brand new. And you'd be surprised at how quick it is to wash and dry a carpet. I first hooovered the carpet, looked spotless. then decided id wash it. The dirty water coming back was horrible. There were so many hairs that were embedded in the carpet, that were removed-it was amazing. Im actually worried about the rest of our carpets, and what secrets they reveal. The carpet visually looks plusher (sp) and sparkling. So far im very impressed!!!

Using a dyson for about 15 months now, very happy with it. Cleaned (washed) the filter twice so far, and thats it. I personally think Dysons look really nice too!

Have a friend who's got a Dyson animal - he's fed up with it - cleaning filter, emptying it etc so he's buying the same hoover as me - a Nilfisk King. Great vacum cleaner and looks good too - Ive got the yellow one. Couldn't tell you what it cost as got it as a wedding present.

we have a dyson for last 4 years and to be honest its a pile of sh1t and except it cost so much we feel we have to justify it and keep it a bit longer. the build quality is crap and the suction is crap.

We've a standard bag oldish Siemens hoover that we were given, originally it came form Germany, and its the best one I've ever used. Its a bit battered now, but I'd buy another one tomorrow.
